Luca says his goodbye to my parents, hugging them both, then my mom pulls Mason in for a hug.Seriously, Mom?
Luca slides his tiny hand into Mason’s, and they both walk down the light-lined pathway toward my car.
I didn’t notice my mom taking up space next to me before I heard her soft voice in my ear. “You two have been spending a lot of time together lately.”
“I know.”
Chapter Twenty-Six
Mason
The sex had broken me that night. Or should I say when we made love. Bailey probably thinks that I don’t remember, but I do. I remember everything about it. Her touch, the feel of her skin, and the way she smells.
Everything.
I unconditionally gave myself to her that night, and I’ve been in a fog ever since. With Bailey, there is a level of intimacy that I’ve never experienced before. Even making love was different than when we fuck—which I like that, too, but to be able to have both with the same woman has been transcendental.
Even when she gave me head at my new house, I still couldn’t stop thinking about making love to her again. I almost blew my load the instant her plump pink lips wrapped around my cock. She craved to have all of me, taking me in, and sucking me dry like I was her last meal. Her big almond-shaped, brown eyes staring up at me from the top of her long lashes—almost begging me to come for her.
It was addicting.
I’m not going to be unrealistic and say that it was the best blow job I’ve ever had because I have gotten some pretty good head in my life. But in the past, I’ve more or less just zoned out. With Bailey, I wanted to watch her, to see that it was her mouth on my dick and not anyone else’s.
Today is the day of Luca’s birthday party. Waking up this morning, my body is still coming down from the high of us at my new house the other day. It felt so good to have her there.
After we picked up Luca from her parents’ house that night, I followed behind them in my car back to our condo building. It was taco night, and tacos being Luca’s favorite food; it was a big deal to him.
Bailey and I cooked together. Luca created monster-sized tacos to eat, then I helped her clean up. And because I wasn’t ready to leave yet, I stayed while she gave Luca a bath. They sang songs in the tub as he splashed around and got water everywhere. They laughed and played together while I stood outside the door with my arms crossed at my chest and my head down, enjoying every sound, every giggle, and every song.
By the time more water was outside the tub than inside, it was time for him to get out. She helped him put on his space pajamas and brush his teeth for bed. Luca told me knock-knock jokes while toothpaste from his electric toothbrush splattered the mirror. Bailey chuckled and then had him wipe it with a towel. I followed them around most of the time, observing and appreciating the fact that they’ve let me into their little world.
After Luca went to bed, I helped Bailey pack his lunch for school the next day. It felt almost instinctual to be there with them. “Glycerine”by Bush played low in the background, bringing an instant smile to my face the minute she put it on.
I knew she was an alternative rock girl.
We laughed, joked, and talked about work. It was refreshing. I didn’t want to leave, and it seemed like she didn’t want me toeither, but I was having things delivered to the new house early the next morning. Also, things were feeling way too comfortable, so I panicked and bolted like I always do.
The next morning, I get a text from my dad telling me that his first treatment is scheduled for two weeks from now. I’ll be going with him to each one for the next few months. The doctors are optimistic and believe that we’ve caught the cancer in time for treatment to be successful, but my mind is still plagued daily with the possibility of losing him.
I finish getting myself ready before heading to the restaurant to check in before they begin the Saturday afternoon and dinner rush.
My phone starts to vibrate on the bathroom counter as I brush my teeth.
“Hi, Harry. What’s up?”
“Hey, man You’re going to stop by the restaurant before heading to my parents’ house for Luca’s party, right?”
I tuck the phone between my shoulder and chin to use both hands to wipe my face off. “Yes, I’m just about to head out now.”
“Okay, cool, because I don’t think I’ll be able to this morning. My sister is making me go over early to help my dad,” he tells me.
“No problem. I can head over there early, too, if you guys need my help. I don’t mind.”
“That sounds great, but I don’t want to push it with Bailey. I feel like you guys are just starting to tolerate each other.”
Harry has no idea how well we actually tolerate each other.I have to bite back a smile, so he doesn’t hear it through my voice. “I’m sure she’ll be fine. I’ll meet you there when I’m finished checking in with the staff.”
“Sounds good. I’ll see you in a few hours.”
