The bond in my chest turned frantic, struggling and fluttering like a trapped bird. Its talons raked my heart, the magic-bound pain eclipsing the physical.

“Kelsea!” I hissed, metal rattling as I strained to get free. To get to her.

Panic shredded all logic as I thrashed and raged in my chains. Desperate to find my mate.

She was in trouble.

She needed me.

I roared, letting the helpless fear and rage out in the only way I could.

“Hold on, heartmate,” I rasped, swallowing thickly. “I’m coming for you.”

I dug my broken claw back into the metal cuff.

And continued scratching.
