“We can’t.” He held his hand out, pulling her to her feet. “The aunts are counting on you to help decorate, and I promised Dane I’d set up the folding tables and get the grill started.”

“You’re right. But later, maybe we can find some time alone?” Rosebud leaned into his kiss.

“Count on it.” He sighed, hating to let her go. “Did Shelby say if the next books would be in before baby Nuc is born?”

“She did.” Rosebud got excited whenever they talked about her books. “Three books. Can you believe it? I hope all the Hill babies like them as much as Nova and Bea have.”

“They will.” He had no doubt. “You’ll have time to write a few more before we get started on our own family, I think.”

“You think?” Rosebud’s laughter rang out. “Let’s get through the engagement party and the wedding first, okay?”

His sigh was long-suffering. “I’ll try.”

“It was your idea to wait until spring, remember?” Rosebud was grinning as she shook out their blanket and draped it over one arm.

“I don’t know what I was thinking.” He shook his head.

“You didn’t want to overshadow Nuc’s birth or Christmas because you’re amazing and kind and generous and an incredibly good kisser.” She pressed a kiss to his cheek. “You wanted it to be our special day. And it will be. Just me and you and the family.”

“Only family.” He chuckled. “The Hills. The Drivers. The Knudsons. Kerrielynn. Roman. Nicole and Benji. The Taggerts. Am I missing anyone?”

“I don’t think so.” Rosebud shook her head. “Would you have it any other way?”

“No.” He took her hand. “I can’t say that I would.” His fingers threaded with hers as he took a minute to stare into her eyes. “I’d say things are about as perfect as they can be, Rosebud.”

From the sweet smile on her face, he knew she agreed.
