Josephine's stare turned into a murderous glare. "You're playing innocent here, bitch?"

My mouth dropped open, no sound leaving my throat.

"You're one of those girls who can't just leave Luke alone," she said with an annoyed expression. "Gosh, I'm so tired of this. When will these girls learn that he's not available?"

I was still trying to comprehend what she said when her next words shocked me to the core.

"I'm his fiancée," Josephine stated.

My mind was spinning. "No," I whispered. "No, it's impossible.Luke didn't tell me—"

"I knew that the trip to Hallstatt had something to do with this," Josephine cut me off. Her eyes were now filled with angry tears, and that made my breath catch in my throat. "He had too much fun playing around. But in the end, it's me who he keeps coming back to. He can't live without me. We've been in love since we were children."

The lack of air in my lungs suffocated me.

What the hell is she talking about?

Before I could respond to her words, Josephine took out her phone, went through it and tossed it to me, as if she wanted me to see what was there on the screen.

My eyes widened as I saw an article about them on the web. It read,‘The heir of Klein Enterprise, Lucas Klein, is expected to tie the knot with Josephine, a supermodel and daughter of conglomerate Howard Radcliffe.’

And it was from a trusted business news website.

My heart was crushed. Everything around me crumbled. My whole body was shaking.

Luke had been betrothed to another woman.

I still remembered Luke's words echoing in my ears."Cassie, I swear to God that I'm not committed to another girl. It's only you, and it will only be you."

He was lying.A tear dropped onto my cheek.

"Are you planning to trick him?" She stared at me in disgust. "By telling him that you're pregnant with his child? What a disgrace. Have you run out of ideas to make him yours? Are you not embarrassed to stoop that low?"

More tears rolled down my face.

"But," I choked. "But this is really his child." My voice was barely a whisper. "Luke and I—"

I couldn't finish my sentence. How stupid I was. How foolish.

Josephine's glare turned even colder and more piercing, her jaw clenched. "Do you think that Luke would ever want to be with agirl like you? It was a mistake. You're just trash he picked up on the street before he realized how disgusting it was. Luke belongs to me, always did and always will."

I shook my head in denial, the lump in my throat hurting me to the core. Was it just a game for Luke?

It was just fun to him. Nothing more.

"No," I cried.

"Can't you see?" Josephine continued. "We're engaged. Our families have a strong bond, so strong that his father would even disown him if he ever broke it. Do you think that he would ever choose you and sacrifice his family?"

I was speechless. This was too much for me. I got what she was trying to say. It didn't make sense. Luke would never make such a stupid decision to be with me.

It was just an empty promise, and I'd foolishly believed him. I must have looked so stupid when I'd fallen right into his act.

"You don't belong in our world." With that said, Josephine stood up and left me staring blankly ahead with tears streaming down my face, heart shattered.

???

I dragged my feet across the pavement, feeling like I was about to collapse, but I kept pushing forward. I couldn't stop my sobs.
