He stepped closer to her, attempting to hold her hand, but she pulled away.

“Is there something you need to tell me, Joaquin? Because the last time we were together, you ghosted me. That’s not something I can just forget about.”

“I’m sorry. I only left because I was self-conscious.”

“About your arm?”

The shocked look on his face was comical to Cassie.

“You know about my arm?”

“Yep. I read your medical records.”

Before he could protest, she held up her hand to prevent him from talking.

“Don’t worry about it. The fact is, I know and I don’t care.”

“Then can we start over? I mean, I want us to really give it a go. I love you, Cass.”

“Yeah, I know you better love me.”

“There’s just one more thing you should know. I used to live on this land when it was just a ranch. You all have really taken it to a whole new level.”

“What do you mean you used to live here?”

“This is where I grew up, Cass. When I first found out that you owned this land, I was very angry with you. But when I talked with my brother, I realized you had no idea. He lost the land because he gambled the mortgage money away.”

“My brother found this place when I was deployed. I had no idea it used to be your home. But it can be again. If you want it.”

“You mean live here with the man who just tried to kill me?”

“Give him a day or two and he’ll calm down. He was just defending my honor after everything we thought you did.”

“I get it baby. I’d be happy to live here again. I can stop drifting around.”
