My warrior. My goddess. My everything.

She wasn’t afraid to face the immortals out there though I’d been terrified. I shamelessly borrowed strength from her, but I planned to give it back to her tenfold.

We had to return to the ballroom, but right now I couldn’t give a flying fuck. There was only the angel of death, riding my cock like she owned me, which she did.

Miranda arched her back, her nails digging into the flesh of my arms as she reached her climax. The second she let go, her inner walls clenching and milking me, my release overtook me.

I drew her to me, burying my face in her breasts, covering up the groans of pleasure as I emptied myself in her.

“Can we not agree that you technically keep winning our bets too?” I said, breathing heavily as if I’d run halfway around the globe.

“No, we cannot,” she said, standing. “Even if it’s true,” she muttered.

It didn’t take long for us to clean up and take turns exiting the library room to return to the party.

I tried to keep the smug smile from forming on my face, but it seemed damn near impossible. But I’d barely been able to enjoy my post-coital bliss when a male voice boomed through the ballroom.

“Well, well, well, did you all miss me?”

“Ah, fuck,” a woman next to me muttered.

I turned to find Vivien standing next to me, her face a dark stormy cloud, her fangs elongating in response to the newcomer.

A man with deeply tanned skin and silver streaked hair, wearing several gold chains against an expensive, white snakeskin suit, waltzed in with a martini dangling in one hand.

“Who is it?” I asked, though I had a suspicion even after not seeing my brethren for so many years. I remembered only one who had such a hold on his own slimy charismatic nature to foster his own massive fucking ego.

“Seth,” Vivien said through gritted fangs.

Chapter 28

The Beast

Yep, that’s the fucker I thought it was. Seth, or Set. Brother of Osiris. At one time, he tried his hand at usurping Osiris to become top god.

He was also one of the gods who’d been released from the Blade of Bane.

I glanced across the room, finding Miranda slipping backward into the crowd while surreptitiously pulling Bob out.

Well, the party was fun while it lasted.

“What? You aren’t all happy to see me again?” Seth asked at the top of the stairs.

Vivien growled next to me. A dark mass was suddenly there at her back, steadying her with hands on her shoulders. Grim.

“Can I get the cliff notes of his most recent crimes?” I murmured when Timothy sidled up to my other side.

Recorder that he was, Timothy rattled them off. “Conspiracy to incite another uprising, this time against Anubis. Captured and held a god against their will. To say the least.”

“You are saying the least,” Vivien growled again.

Grim spoke to her in low warning. “Most gods have committed sins and returned to join the ranks after a time. If he’d gone to the cradle instead of the blade, we would have had to deal with him eventually.”

“Too soon,” Vivien muttered. “Waytoo soon.”

“Regardless,” Grim ground out as if he didn’t like it either, “If he wishes to play nice, he gets to stay.”

“Oh look,” Seth announced drolly, with a wave of his martini. “It’s Grim and his bitch.”
