She smiled up at him. "Good choice."

AMBER HAD LIED TO HIM. SHE DIDN'T KNOW SHIT ABOUT pool. Fortunately, Will was a patient teacher, and Amber learned fast.

Which didn't mean they were winning, because they were getting their asses kicked by Sergei and Brandon.

Not that he minded all that much. After all, he got to lean against Amber and rub his body against her every time he helped her line up a shot. It wasn't too much of a hardship to lose a couple rounds of pool as long as he got to put his hands on a beautiful woman.

Right now she was stretched across the table, trying to line up a shot in the corner pocket.

"Put your hands like this," he said, aligning his body next to hers and showing her how to handle the stick. Though frankly, she had it handled. She'd sunk the last three balls and she grew more confident with every ball she sank in the pocket.

"I think I've got it," she said.

Yeah, she had it all right. Her black leggings stretched tight across her very sweet ass, and he stepped back to enjoy the view as she took her shot.

"Damn," she said as she missed the shot. She straightened and moved over to stand beside Will, letting Sergei take his turn. "Sorry."

Will shrugged. "Don't be. For a beginner, you're doing great."

"Am I?"

"Yeah, you've got a natural feel for the stick."

She arched a brow. "Is that some sexual innuendo?"

He leaned down to whisper in her ear. "It can be if you'd like."

He felt the tremble in her body.

"I'd like anything you do to me, Will."

Now he felt the quiver, this time in his balls. Not a good place for his cock to decide to harden, so he focused instead on the game.

After about an hour, everyone decided to head on back up the mountain.

He pulled Amber aside. "How would you feel about hanging out with me here for the night?"

"In the bar?"

He cocked a half smile. "No, I've got another idea."

"I'm listening."

"I have a friend who rented a house down here. It's got plenty of bedrooms . . ."

Will had let the sentence trail off, obviously leaving it up to Amber to make the decision.

"Hmm. Lisa could have the apartment to herself. She'd like that."

"I'm sure she would." He liked how the first thing she thought about was her friend and roommate. It spoke to her generous nature, how she thought about someone else before she thought about herself. Yet another reason why he liked her.

"Plus, you and I would get some alone time," he added.

"Yes, I like that part."

"Me, too."

"Except there's one problem."

"What's that?"

"How will we get back up the mountain tomorrow? I have to be on the ice by nine."

"Dave will drive us up."

"Dave being your friend who rented the house?"

"Yes."

"Are you sure he wouldn't mind?"

"He won't mind. He's got a complete pass for all the games, and he never misses a single event. He'll want to be up there early before anything starts."

"Oh. Great. Then I guess . . . yes, if you're sure we're not imposing."

"We're not imposing. He's a friend from Chicago. I've known him my whole life. He brought his wife, and his brother is staying as well. His whole family has been coming to the bar for as long as I can remember."

"Oh, that's nice."

"Yeah. Anyway, he invited me to stay at the house anytime I wanted to."

"That's . . . convenient."

Will gave Amber a heated smile. "Isn't it?"

"Let's go."

"Sure." She started to get up, then sat back down. "Oh, wait. I can't stay. I'm Tia's chaperone."

"It's a drive up the mountain."

"But I'm still responsible for seeing her back to the village."

"Okay." He wouldn't do anything to compromise Amber's sense of responsibility.

She was thinking, so he let her do that. If they had to go back, he'd understand.

"Hang on a second." She got up and went over to talk to Telisa for a few minutes, then motioned for Tia, who came over and sat with them. Then more talking. When Amber came back and sat next to him, she looked more relaxed.

"Everything okay?"

"It is now. Telisa and Robbie are going to make sure Tia gets back to her room."

"Oh, good."

"Yes, I trust they won't let her make any detours."

"You mean, like detouring to Rory's room?"

Amber smiled. "Yes. Not that I think she'd do that."

"Why don't you think she'd do that? She's a healthy teenager who's got the hots for a guy. Just because you didn't doesn't mean she wouldn't."

"You have a point. I'm glad I'm not in charge of her all the time."

Will laughed. "Yeah, I wouldn't want to monitor a teenager here. Actually, I wouldn't want to monitor anyone's behavior here. Except my own."

She leaned into him. "Why, are you out of control?"

He gave her a look that told her just how much he wanted her. "I can be. Just wait 'til we get to Dave's."

"And just how far away does Dave live from here?"

"No clue. Hopefully not far."

"Then let's get going."

He stood and took her hand. "Yeah, let's do that."

They said their good-byes to everyone, then Will ordered a car that fortunately didn't take long to show up. The ride to Dave's house only took ten minutes.

Dave's rented house was a nice Victorian style, and much b

igger than Amber imagined it would be. She wished it was light outside so she could check out the outside, but she could still see the gables, and the wraparound front porch was amazing. She couldn't wait to view it in the light of day.

Will entered a code at the garage door, and the door lifted.

"Shouldn't we knock at the front door?" she asked.

"They're all out," Will said as he led her through the garage and opened the door leading to the house. He punched the button to put the garage door down.

He took her hand and led her down the hall toward the kitchen.

"Let me find the light switch," he said. When he did, the kitchen was bathed in bright light. It was beautiful and modern, with gray cabinets and a dark granite island. The floors were gray wood plank that led all the way into the spacious living room, which was centered by a huge stone fireplace.

"It's beautiful here."

"Yeah, it is." He walked over to the refrigerator and opened the door, then craned his neck around. "Beer or wine?"

"That's not ours."

He laughed. "No, it's Dave's, and he said we could help ourselves. So do you want beer or wine?"

"I think I'm fine with a glass of water."

Will pulled out a beer from the fridge while Amber found a glass in the cabinet and made herself some ice water.

"Let's go check out the house," Will said.

"Sure."

She slipped off her boots. Will looked down at her feet.

"What are you doing?" he asked.

"It's not our house. I think we should respect that."

"It's not like I'm wearing high heels, Amber."

She gave him a look. "I know that, but still, we've been trudging around in the snow. Maybe the owners don't want melting snow all over their wood floors."

"My guess is they have someone in to clean before the owners come back. But I'm happy to wander around in my socks." He toed off his boots and left them next to hers, then led the way past the kitchen and living room through open French doors into an expansive library that also had a fireplace.

Amber wandered the built-in bookshelves and ran her fingers over the owners' books.

"Wow. There are some old books here. Some classics." She pulled one out, gently turned over the pages, then looked up at Will. "This is a first edition Alice's Adventures in Wonderland."

"Is that a big deal?"

"It's . . . rare. And yes, it's a big deal."

Will watched as she closed the book and slid it gingerly back on the shelf, then backed away.

"I don't think they bite," he said.

"I don't think we should be in here."

"Okay." He started to walk out, but he noticed Amber gazing longingly at the bookshelves.
