His name echoes in the breeze before I realize that I’m the one shouting his name. I grip his backside and urge him to faster strokes. When my orgasm comes, it’s violent and rips me apart as strangled noises escape my mouth.

I’m still trembling when Ace comes and a stream of hot seed shoots into my pussy.

“Stay inside a little longer,” I tell Ace.

He turns me over slowly and the effort of doing so while keeping his cock inside me takes a lot of effort and careful maneuvering. His determination makes me laugh.

When I’m settled on his chest, a thought comes to me. This is the perfect place and moment to tell Ace that he’s a father to a fifteen-month beautiful little girl.

My heart stumbles in my chest. Fear steals over me. I don’t know if I can do this. I open my mouth to speak but nothing comes out. I take a deep breath to calm myself down. How do you tell a man that the child he thinks belongs to your sister is actually his daughter?

And suddenly, in a moment of mental clarity, I realize that I was wrong not to tell Ace about Luna immediately. I want to kick myself. The one clear thing is that I need to talk to him soon. I cannot postpone it any longer.

Chapter 15

Ace

Lexi and I sit on the blanket facing the sea like two Buddhist monks. It was her idea, claiming that it’s some form of meditation. It does feel relaxing but what strikes me is how peaceful it is. If it were possible, I’d stay here forever with Lexi.

I hear her inhale before she turns to face me. I turn too. “Are we still meditating?” I tease.

She doesn’t giggle as I expect her to. Instead, her expression is serious, in a way I’ve never seen before. I should worry that something is wrong, but I don’t. The day has been perfect. Lexi has said it at least five times today.

“Are you okay?” I ask her.

She smiles then, but it’s not the open cute smile I know. It’s a nervous one. She bites on her lower lip. “Yes and no.”

I reach out and stroke her knee in a soothing gesture. She covers my hand with hers.

“I need to tell you something,” Lexi continues.

I’m curious now. And admittedly I have a knot of dread in my belly. “What is it, Lexi?”

She closes her eyes and when she opens them again, she lets out a breath. She’s making me nervous, but I maintain my cool and wait patiently.

“You remember I told you that Luna is my niece? That she’s Vanessa’s daughter?”

I nod.

“She’s not,” Lexi says. “She’s my daughter.”

The first thing I feel is a relief. Relief that Vanessa is not sick or something heartbreaking like that. I’m surprised that she lied to me, but I can live with that. People have their own private reasons as to why they do things.

A lot of things make sense now that I know that Luna is Lexi’s daughter. Like the statement, she made earlier that if she had Luna with her, she’d be content to stay on the small island forever. And how she seems to be the primary caretaker even though Vanessa was the supposed mother.

“Vanessa doesn’t have any problems, does she?” I ask Lexi.

She dips her chin down. “No,” she mumbles. “She’s the most responsible person I know.”

“Hey, don’t look so sad,” I say trying to cheer her up. “It’s fine. I know you Lexi and you wouldn’t do something like that for no reason.”

When she looks up, she has tears in her eyes. And something else that stops me from gathering her in my arms.

“That’s not all,” she says. “Luna is your daughter too.”

I stare at her uncomprehendingly. I heard the words and I know what they mean but that cannot possibly be true. It takes a while for my brain to unfreeze. When it does, a thousand thoughts run through it.

How? When? The image of Luna’s pretty little face jumps to my mind. She’s a sweet kid…but daughter?

“It happened on our first and last night together. I was on the pill, but something must have gone wrong because nine months later, I got Luna.” Lexi pulls up her legs to her chest and hugs her knees.

“Why didn’t you tell me?”

Her eyes widen. “I looked for you everywhere!” she snaps. “You never told me that you were going overseas.”

I have a feeling she’s a breath short of adding a bastard. She’s right. Guilt grabs me as I remember that night. But it's quickly overtaken by wonder. That night resulted in the conception of a baby.

I fast forward to the present. Lexi and I have been seeing each other for more than a month. “Why didn’t you tell me weeks ago?”

My head throbs as I try to make sense of it all. My life, which seemed simple just minutes ago, doesn’t seem like mine at all. Anger creeps up on me without my realizing it.
