I burst out laughing. “You can’t pick your sister’s crushes, Kyle.”
“Yeah, but she dated different guys in high school.”
“Well, like it or not, she likes Leon, and he’s a nice guy, so buck up. Besides, you’ve been flirting nonstop with Terry Gilchrest.”
“Have not!” he said defensively, but I didn’t miss the smile that spread across his face. Not that I could blame him, Terry was cute and sexy in a preppy sort of way. Not my type, of course, but cute, nonetheless.
The pizza arrived in almost no time and we ate in relative silence. I knew the twins were uncomfortable with Kaden, and I should probably send him away so we could chat, but before I could, the aches and pains began to wrack my body. “Damn, that came on fast,” I said as I clutched my stomach.
Kaden quickly grabbed my pills; I swallowed one and then curled up on my bed. Unfortunately, the pain didn’t subside right away. In fact, I didn’t think the pill helped with the pain at all, but it did put me to sleep.
Throughout the night, I dreamed of being locked in mortal combat with Dr. Bisbee. Sometimes it was with our minds, and others it was with old-time swords and battle armor. I woke up twice, and Kaden was there each time, ready to help me to the bathroom and give me the next pill.
Before morning, my dreams shifted from Dr. Bisbee to Kaden. Instead of fighting him, I had my head in his lap. As he held me, he hummed quietly. The sound of his voice calmed me and allowed me to sleep more deeply. Like he was a stronger pain reliever than the one the doctor had given me. As I began to wake, the dreams shifted from sweet to something else... something much more erotic. I slowly unzipped Kaden’s pants as he looked down at me with those piercing eyes. I took him out of his shorts and was about to go down on him when I woke. The sun was shining through the windows, Kaden was leaning back against the wall, and just like in the dream, my head was in his lap. He looked… not serene, but that was something I doubted Kaden ever was. However, he didn’t look quite as tortured as usual.
I moved, and Kaden immediately stirred. At first, when he looked down at me, he appeared alarmed, almost like he thought I was there to hurt him, but then he quickly got control of himself and smiled.
“You feeling better?” he asked.
“Much, thanks. Um, how did we end up like this?” I asked, not willing to move. I didn’t know how to explain my feelings, but everything just felt right.
He smiled. “You were having nightmares all night, and I didn’t know how to calm you, so I thought maybe this would help. Did it?” he asked almost shyly.
I nodded. “I was dreaming of battling Bisbee, then I was dreaming of this.”And more,I thought to myself—a whole lot more.I had to get my mind on something else, because my shorts suddenly got a lot tighter.
His smile didn’t do much to alleviate my need. “I’m glad. What time do you have class?” he asked.
I looked at my watch. “In an hour.” I wanted to whimper, I would love to turn over and do what I’d done in my dream, but something told me this wasn’t the time. Kaden was tough and powerful, but he was also vulnerable. He’d allowed himself to be tender with me. He’d even taken care of me. So indulging those fantasies was out of the question right now.
I stood to go shower, and when I looked out the window, I saw several air vehicles sitting outside the school. Then I saw Dr. Bisbee, and the moment I noticed her, she turned toward my window. Somehow she knew I was watching even though I knew we were too far away for her to see me.
“Hey, those are my guards,” Kaden said, coming up behind me. “They must be guarding her now.”
Three men surrounded Bisbee, and I assumed they were the guards he was speaking of. Within moments my head began to pound, the pressure increasing intensely.
“Fuck! Lysander, what’s happening, what’s…?” Kaden looked out the window and jumped forward. Within seconds the pain stopped. Kaden was looking at Bisbee. I was afraid I’d bring on another attack, but I looked anyway. Bisbee was lying on the ground, and the men were bustling around her.
“Did you kill her?” I asked.
“No, luckily I’ve learned to control my power enough not to hurt people if I don’t want to. But I did help her take a little nap,” he said, smiling.
I cringed. “Well, I’m not sure what you did, but it couldn’t have happened to a more deserving person.”
He winked at me. “She won’t be bothering you for a while.” He looked back out the window. “But I’m guessing she’s going to need medical care, not unlike what you received.”
Sure enough, Dr. Wells came rushing out seconds later. Instead of bringing Dr. Bisbee back into the school, though, he and his interns loaded her onto the gurney and took her up in one of the large airships. Shortly after, the doors closed, and the ship raced east, taking that horrible woman with them.

Bonding
Chapter seventeen
Kaden
Classesdraggedonallday, and I was anxious to get back and spend time with Lysander again. I knew I was being an idiot. My instincts got all mixed up when it came to Lysander, but I’d come to accept Dr. Bisbee’s theory that he was my polarity. That was why I was so attracted to him. If the magnet analogy was to be believed, it was probably also why he repelled me so hard to begin with. I was just looking at him the wrong way.
Dr. Bisbee's Practicum class had been canceled until further notice, so I walked toward the student hall to see if Lysander was there with his friends, Kyle and Kaylee. It was the same time of day when the faculty had allowed the snow to fall inside the campus, and the infamous snowball fight had occurred.
