“It says what it says.” He huffed. “You two should really be manning the counter.”
“We are. We absolutely are.” Jacob responded.
“Well I don’t need you both to do it! Serena, can you come helpme sort out the tins?” Garret responded.
“Sure. Whatever you need.” She said as she slipped into the back. Garret was about to join her when Jacob stepped in between them.
“Hey boss, you’ve been working hard. Let me make you something.” Teddy glared at him.
“What do you think you’re doing Jacob?” He hissed. Jacob ignored him.
“Make it strong.” Garret responded before disappearing into the back again- and Jacob got to work.
“Look, if his marriage is in trouble, I want to help. It’s nothing crazy, just a little prod to relax and follow his feelings back to his heart.” Jacob responded.
“Is he even married?” Teddy asked.
“Who knows. But if it gets him to relax his vice grip on this place for a minute I’m all for it.” Teddy responded.
“That’s a terrible idea. This is a terrible idea. Go for it.” Jacob let his coffee do its magic and in a matter of moments he had a small flat white with white chocolate for his boss. Even he had to admit it looked good. And just a smidge of peppermint to help Garret pursue his heart.
Just as he finished, Garret emerged from the back. He looked from Jacob, to Teddy, to the coffee and frowned.
“I don’t like macchiatos.” Garret responded.
“It’s a flat white.” Jacob responded—wondering how Garret hadn’t ever figured out his own merchandise.
“Oh. I don’t like those either.” Garret frowned.
“Just give it a try. I promise you’ll find something to enjoy out of it.” Jacob smiled. Garret shrugged and retreated to the back with the drink.
“I hope you know what you’re doing with that.” Teddy sighed.
“Never.” Jacob responded.
Just as he said that, the door dinged and in walked Joe. Helooked as fresh and dapper as ever.
“Hello handsome.” Joe said.
“Hello there…also handsome.” Jacob flushed.
“Puke.” Teddy responded.
“What brings you here?”
“It’s one o’clock. I’m here for some coffee.” Joe smiled. “Where are the coworkers?”
“In the back.” Jacob responded.
“And the customers?” Joe smiled.
“Away...” Jacob couldn’t figure out what Joe was getting at.
“I see.” Joe smiled and flicked the lock of the door. “And the security cameras?”
“What security cameras?”
“Good answer.” Joe smiled.
