way into the smokers quarters. The space itself was a small fenced area at
the back of an old warehouse. Jacob didn’t smoke, but for now it was the
only place they could talk freely.
“Bum a fag?” someone with a thick British accent asked.
“That’s exactly what I was trying to do!” Jacob exclaimed before
turning to Serena with wide confused eyes. “What- Why- What do I even
ask here?”
“It just kind of happened.” She shrugged. “We went in the back and
then one thing lead to another-”
“Things don’t just do that Serena! They don’t just happen!” Jacob
exclaimed. “Actually maybe they do…But you probably did something as
well!”
“It’s fine. It’s good.” She laughed.
“He’s married!” He responded, before pausing. “I think. He’s married
right?”
“Was.” Serena said. “Apparently they finalized their divorce a month
ago. She ran off with someone from Estonia. Some big pop star or
whatever.”
“Oh. Well that’s sad for him.” Jacob said suddenly feeling a little
ashamed that he hadn’t known this before. “But why are you letting him
dip his pen in the company ink?”
“First off, ew-” She noted. “Secondly, nothing has happened yet. This
has been a perfectly good first date and I’m not opposed to seeing him
again soon. Also- if I want to let him, I don’t really think you have any
ability or should have any problem with me letting him do so. Am I
wrong?”
“No! You’re being perfectly reasonable!” Jacob responded sounding just
as frustrated but trying to be supportive. “But…ew! It’s Garret! His name
is Garret!”
“Nobody’s perfect.” She shrugged.
