Chapter 8: Hannah
Istare at my phone. My video about Callaghan Entay is hovering in the fifty-thousand views range. A solid turnout for me for a video of this type. My dog park games usually pull in a few hundred thousand views.
But that’s not what I’m staring at. It’s Ophelia, the girl from the bathroom at The Tower. The bride. Her story is all over the news. Not even just ClikClak, but like thenews-news. ESPN.com covered it.
And holy hell, is it juicy.
There’s no way I can’t make a video about it. It’s literally the sort of thing I should be salivating over. But here I sit, phone in hand, unable to do anything about it.
It feels wrong.
Granted, I only talked to her for a few minutes, but none of what’s in the story seems like the person I met. I wouldneverhave pegged her for a prostitute or call girl. It doesn’t make sense in my head.
I google Ophelia Finnegan.
On about the third or fourth page is her LinkedIn profile. She has an MBA from Boston University. She majored in accounting. She’s held positions at a number of places in the accounting departments and as a bookkeeper.
I look at the byline for the article and immediately pass judgment. Chassen Donato is an irresponsible journalist. He should be reporting for Page Six or TMZ rather than ESPN, if he’s going to spread gossip like this.
ESPN needs reputable reporters, like me. Ones who know how to use a spatula as a pretend microphone.
I dig into his background a little, including stalking his Instagram profile. The last picture on there is from Thanksgiving. He was in West Hartford, Connecticut. Something about that rings a bell, but I can’t put my finger on it. But then I see it. In the background of his picture.
It’s Ophelia and Xavier.
I zoom in. Yup, it’s them.
I switch to Ophelia’s Instagram. Her post from Thanksgiving is a graphic, wishing everyone a good day. However, there is a location stamp. West Hartford, Connecticut.
Two hours later, I’ve found that Chassen Donato is dating Makayla Nieves, whose mother, Georgia, is sister to Carolina Finnegan, Ophelia’s sister-in-law.
What a small world it is. And social media makes it even smaller.
I’d really like to know what happened at that Thanksgiving dinner last week. Chassen Donato’s face is all over ClikClak.
I dislike him immensely.
I hope he enjoys his fifteen minutes of fame because he should never work in this business again. I take his irresponsible reporting personally. Here I am, making an ass out of myself so even a local station will notice and give me a chance. This douchecanoe already has a foot in the door at my dream job and breaks the story of the century.
Except it might not be.
