Like I love you.
Once we’re in Callaghan’s car, driving to my place in Charlestown, I start reading them.
Ophelia: Hannah, I’m so sorry. I don’t know how this happened.
Ophelia: Xavier’s livid.
Ophelia: Do you think it was someone from The Tower who leaked it?
Ophelia: I’m sorry because the story would have helped you. I want to help you.
Ophelia: We owe you, big time.
Ophelia: Maybe you can put your own spin on it? I’ll give you some details.
Ophelia: Xavier is pissed. These are the people who blew up the Phaedra story and ruined his career the first time.
Ophelia: I can’t believeThe Looking Glassscooped your story.
Ophelia: Though I had to giggle a little, because he actually said, “Take my wife’s name out your mouth.” But you know he has that accent, so it was adorable.
Ophelia: Not to mention, it made me swoon a little when he said, “My wife.” I mean, I know I am and all, but ... swoon.
This is a pretty typical text thread for Ophelia. Except, of course, the content. I’m not sure what exactly she’s talking about. Also not off-brand for Ophelia. Then, one more text comes in.
Gunther: We need you to return your paperwork so you can officially start. We’ll be sending your first assignment over this week.
Chapter 27: Callaghan
Hannah’s staring ather phone, perplexed.
“Trouble?” I ask as I park down the street from her building.
“Ophelia blew up my phone, but I’m not sure what she’s talking about.” She’s reading through her text messages again. Then, I see her eyes grow wide.
“What?”
