“Why, though?” She frowned. “What made me different from other spirits that came to you?”
“I’m not sure.”Or was he?“I think I might have made contact with you before this. I'm certain, actually.”
“It doesn’t look like you would have had much time,” Jade commented, having evidently joined them. “You’re so tiny, Tor.”
“That means little,” Thorulf reminded. “Remember, I met you before I was even born, Jade.”
Thorulf had shot right out of his mother’s womb to greet her.
Like Maya and Dagr, Jade and Thorulf were powerful enough now to be down here safely in human form.
“Good point, wedidmeet before we were born, Thorulf,” Jade conceded. “And before you ask, Raven, because I can feel your worry, Aunt Elsie’s fine. She’s with Leviathan, Destiny, Vicar, and Trinity.”
“Fine for now.” Raven plainly sensed more. “Vicar and Trinity will be leaving soon, won’t they? Heading to Ireland and Celtic territory.”
“Yeah,” Jade confirmed. “They—”
“Should wait a while longer,” Raven interrupted. “Wait until...”
She trailed off when the memory continued.
Having found her courage, tiny Raven jumped up on the rock and sat beside Tor.
“My name is Raven,” she began, “and you must heed my warning.”
Tiny flames flicked over her serpentine body.
“Good for me acting so calm,” Raven said. “Because, as seen clearly by my magic acting up, my emotions were all over the place.”
“I could feel it,”Tor confirmed.“One moment, you were happy to see me. The next sad because you feared bad things to come. Then rage at something unseen. Anger you’re struggling to repress.”He shook his head.“Too many emotions for such a young soul.”
“You must warn your people,” tiny Raven went on, drawing them back to the memory. “Tell them to prepare for great mayhem. For gods that will destroy them all. For a Great War that could wipe out humanity if it goes unchecked.”
“What gods?” Tor asked. “Our gods?” He frowned. “Why would they want to do that?”
“Partially your gods,” she began.
“And partially mine,” came the Irish voice, finishing her sentence.
The memory faded but not the wizard. Rather, he emerged from the darkness and looked directly at them. “Gods that have a plan ye did not see coming.”
