“Someone like me?”

“Someone with two parents who have been in his life from the beginning.” She finally lifted her head and looked at him. “Aunt Elsie’s been super, but it’s not the same as having parents like you had.”

“Because you remember them now?” he realized, feeling it as well. “You remember me talking about them?”

“Endlessly.” She blinked away the moisture in her eyes. “Sven and Emily, right? King and Queen of the Sigdir Fortress? They’re pretty amazing people if I remember correctly.”

“They are,” he admitted. “And they’d like you a lot.”

“Would they?” She narrowed her eyes and managed a small, wobbly smile. “Even if they found out I’m in league with the enemy?”

“Even if,” he assured, wiping away a stray tear that trickled down her cheek. “Because they would understand that if you’re in league with the enemy, there’s likely a very good reason for it.”

“So a good reason would sell it then?” She chuckled. “Very lenient parents.”

“Very bright, open-minded magical parents,” he clarified, his gaze dropping to her lips, “that understand things can seem one way but be something else altogether.”

“Oh yeah?” she whispered. Her gaze fell to his lips as well. “What if I seem like your mate, but I’m just a puppet meant to lure you to the dark side?”

“Then I guess I’ll just have to be a puppet for a while.” He traced her jawline and tilted her chin up. “I’ll be anything you want me to be.”

Before she had a chance to respond, he figured he would start with being what they were already. Good friends turned more who had just kissed for the first time. Who would kiss again. That in mind, he finally did what he had wanted to do since the moment he remembered how much she meant to him.

He kissed her.

Chapter Fifteen

RAVEN WASN’T SURE howshe had let Tor get this far. Or if she should be frustrated at him for taking advantage of her vulnerability when he rested her on his lap or not. Either way, it didn’t much matter when he closed his lips over hers.

Nothing mattered after that.

She had shared a few kisses with men back home before she realized how destructive male dragon energy could be, but they couldn’t touch what she felt now. It couldn’t even touch how her teenage self had felt when he kissed her for the first time.

This was different.

Life-altering in a way she was only just remembering.
