Pleasantly unavoidable, to be honest.

“Then friends it is.” His smile widened, only ramping up his hotness. “Which means you’re privy to all sorts of interesting things.”

“Oh yeah?” she asked as he led her along the cliff.

“To be sure.”

Chapter Six

THE LAST THING Cianwanted to be was merefriendswith Madison, but he appreciated her accepting that was the only route for them. All right, mayhapappreciatedwas too strong a word when some small part of him had hoped she would rail against it. Tell him it was impossible. There was no way of avoiding how strongly they already felt for one another.

“Come.” He pulled her down a narrow path between cliffs. “I’ll walk you along these cliffs soon enough, but you need to forgo the view for now so that I might show you something else.”

“This way.” He ducked into a tunnel dimly lit by random holes in the rock. “Watch your step.”

“I will.” He heard the grin in her voice. “These shoes,brógsas you call them, are very unusual.”

They were compared to what she wore in the twenty-first century.

“Do you hear it yet?” he asked as he led her along.

“Hear what? I don’t hear....” she began before trailing off. “Actually, Idohear something. What is that?”

“We call it King’s Roar.”

“Really?” She strained to hear. “Not sure I’d call it a roar.”
