“Oh, wow,” Riona whispered.
Declán joined her on the other side just in case Caith acted out. Which, to be expected, was the last thing he did as Riona stared at him in awe.
“How did Idothat?” she wondered as Caith nudged the side of her head gently with unmistakable thanks.
“I would say with your Unnamed One magic.” He gestured at her dress. “So says that,ta?”
Based on her stunned look, she hadn’t realized her outfit had changed until she looked down.
“This is it,” she gasped, looking from him back to the dress. “This is the same dress I’ve worn in so many dreams over the years. Dreams about this time in history....”
He sensed she wanted to say more but held back as her gaze returned to Caith. As he finally heard the horse communicating telepathically.
“We should not linger.” Caith looked Declán’s way. “Riona’s magic could have alerted Raghnall and his sorceress.”
That’s when he figured outwhoCaith was at the same time as Riona.
“Luna’s not my familiar,” she gasped. “Youare.”
“Ta, m’lady.” Caith’s ears perked. He shifted closer to them. “We must go.” The horse looked directly at him. “And ye must be prepared to fight, m’lord, for Riona’s magic was, indeed, detected.”
Chapter Seven
RIONA WASN’T SURE whatcaught her more off guard. That Caith was herfamiliar, or that she had healed him and now wore the blue dress from her dream, or how she felt when Declán plunked her on Caith, then swung up behind her. She held on tight to the horse's mane and stayed low when Declán ordered her to, closing her eyes as they raced out of the stables.
But not before he chanted, flung opened a stall in passing, and spoke to another horse in Gaelic. A language she understood more by the moment.
“That was your horse, I take it?”she asked telepathically as they raced into the courtyard to rain that only seemed to fall harder.
“’Twas.”He unsheathed his sword and cut down a man in passing before they flew out of the gates and beneath the first portcullis.“He will take a more discreet route because he has less weight on his back.”
“We can’t leave Luna,”she exclaimed into Declán’s and Caith’s minds.“We can’t—”
She yelped when a fireball crashed down next to them, and sparks stung her skin.
“How are we going to outrun Raghnall and Siobhán?”They raced beneath the second portcullis.“I’ve heard what Siobhán is capable of with magic, never mind Raghnall. Pretty clear in that fireball.”
