“Yes, I know, and I intend to make your homecoming special.” His eyes went hot and her knees wobbled.
“Right back atcha.” She winked.
“I’m the luckiest guy in the world.” Bending close, he pressed his mouth to her ear and nipped the lobe with his teeth. “I’ll show you how grateful I am later.” He lifted his head to stare into her eyes. “We’re good for each other, Elle.”
“Yes, we certainly are,” she said, brushing his stubbled jaw with her hand.
“We’re going to have a great life together. Trust me.”
“I do trust you. With my heart, my body, my soul, my life,” she said.
Fate? Not quite yet, but she was working on it. Real hard.
She wrapped her arms around his neck and pressed her face into his throat, kissing him there, loving how his arms automatically tightened around her. “I love you, Jeremy. Thanks for putting up with me.”
He drew back to look at her again, his gaze serious. “I love you too, Elle. We’ll have an amazing life together. You’ll see.”
Not for the first time over the past four weeks, hope seeped into her heart. But this time it was different. This time, she felt like she might actually get her own happily-ever-after.
