“Why would I do that?”Victoria asked.

“Your body is fighting the change. It’s uncertain about what is happening, and it refuses to allow it.”

“That can happen?”

“Not for very long. The change will win one way or another.”Oret admitted.

They stopped talking and concentrated on their meal.He couldn't say that he was completely surprised.Victoria leaned back in her chair and was completely out.He continued eating his meal.It wasn't like he didn't know what was wrong.Sara came out to check on her mother and was distressed to see that she was out cold.

“Aren't you going to do something?”Sara asked.

“I'm going to finish my meal, and if you wouldn't mind, would you pack up your mother's meal, so it doesn't go to waste?”

“You know what's wrong?”

“Yes, your mother's fighting the change, so it took over. She'll probably be out until the change is done.”Oret offered.

“Maybe that is for the best. The change is not exactly fun to go through.”

“She'll be fine, and she'll wake up once it's done.”

“I hope so.”Sara still looked worried.“What do you think my mom will say about going to the moon?”

“You've known her longer than I have. What do you think?”

“She won't be surprised.I believe she already has some idea about everything that's coming.I just hope you have some way to make it easier on her.”

“Radvar has promised a small ship so that we can come visit when we need to,” Oret explained.

“That is very generous.”

“It is, but I believe he has an ulterior motive. The ship will also be used to connect the two moons with the planet for various purposes, including trade.I'm sure the monsters will want their own ship, but this will placate them for a little while.”

“Is calling them monsters the best way to refer to them?”Sara asked.

“It's what they are called in our time, and they don't seem to mind.Others leave them alone, and part of that is because of what they are called.”

Sara just nodded, and then she went to get a container to put Victoria's food in.They only had a few of these containers, which could warm or cool food depending on the requirement. If she didn't wake up within a day, Oret would eat the meal so that it wouldn't be wasted and get her another when it seemed she would wake up.He hoped that she wouldn't be out long, because he knew she would be upset if she were. With her being out cold, the change should take effect more quickly. Not that he'd ever heard of somebody being knocked out to go through the change. It occurred to him that it would be smart if someone started documenting some of this information, with so many people going through the change. It was even possible that someone was, and maybe he needed to get in touch with medical to find out if anything like that was being done.

Right now, he had finished eating, and it was time to get Victoria set up in her bed. When she finally woke up, she would probably be angry. He could imagine that the anger would be turned outward, but that he could handle it even if a few others couldn't.It was also possible that she would be pleased with the added benefits that she would get from being Majuri. Her senses would be sharper, she would have added strength and speed, and she would be healthier in general, with a longer lifespan. There are many good things to be thankful for.Once he carried his mate home and settled her in bed, it was time to get back to work.First, he would go to the mine and see that it was running as well as it had been.

Gary had been promoted to number two and might eventually become my manager. Each mine would eventually have a manager, and there would be someone in charge of it all.Right now, that was Victoria, but when she left, someone else would have to slide into that position. It would have to be someone who had adequate training in all necessary areas and could handle these rough miners.Oret thought that he had people who could cover each of the Mind Manager positions and even someone who could handle the office position, but no one currently here could fill the position that Victoria had vacated. He worked in the main mine for about an hour before stopping, taking off his equipment, and cleaning up.Everything seemed to be running well, and there would have to be a big problem for him to be able to stay.Since it was a good time to eat, he decided to check on the kitchen next.

Most of the employee problems have been addressed, and other issues are being taken care of one at a time. With all the changes, it was impossible to complete everything at once.

“Oret, did you need something?”Brenda asked.

“I was checking in to be sure that there were no problems, and while I was here, I was going to get a plate of whatever you have.”

“You picked a really good time.We just finished smoking a load of fish, and it is going to go out on the bar in a little while. We also offer a horseradish sauce made from locally sourced ingredients that you can try.Wild rice will be served with it, sourdough bread, a vegetable medley, and carrot cake for dessert.Does that sound good?”

“Fill me up.That sounds very good.Have you given any thought to moving up to a day shift supervisor position? My schedule is filling up, and I was only supposed to assist here temporarily.”Oret mentioned.

“Some of these people are very difficult to work with.I wish I could be more like Victoria because then I would know I could handle them.”

“The beauty of the position is that there is still someone over the supervisors. You still won't have to deal with the very worst situations.”

“You mean Sara?”Brenda looked shocked.
