Kit perked up. “Like a weekend trip?”
“I think it's exactly like a weekend trip,” I said, wrapping my arms around her waist again. She draped her arms over my shoulders and laced her fingers behind my neck.
"I would love that,” Kit said. “Our first trip together.”
I liked hearing Kit sayfirsttrip, implying she thought there could besecondandthirdtrips. The thought excited me. I pulled Kit toward me and she wrapped her legs around me. Ileaned forward and kissed her soft lips. We kissed again softly and then again. I gently licked Kit’s neck. I felt her shudder with pleasure, then she said in a breathy voice, “We’ve gotta get out of here soon or we’re going to be acting out that sexy librarian role play fantasy everyone always asks me about.”
I pulled back and smiled at her. “All my fantasies are sexy librarian fantasies now.”
“Is that right?” Kit asked.
"Yes, but who are all these people asking you about this librarian fantasy?” I said protectively with a laugh. I pulled her closer to me.
Kit threw her head back and laughed, her hands still hooked around my neck. I leaned in and gave her a long hard kiss.
Chapter 17: Kit
Veronica squealed as I opened the door to her SUV and slid into the front seat. She reached over the center console and gave me a hug. “I can’t believe I’m seeing you twice in a month.” She cried, “I’m so glad you’re in town!”
“I know. I’m so glad it worked out for me to come to Atlanta with William this weekend,” I said, closing the car door. William and I had driven into Atlanta early Friday morning. We checked into the hotel, then William went to work. Veronica and I made plans to go to a spa, and she offered to pick me up at the hotel.
“Yeah, William has a meeting on Monday morning, and he wanted to come down today to do a little prep work, so we thought we’d make a weekend of it,” I said as I buckled my seat belt.
She turned her wrist to check her watch. “Oh! Our appointment at the spa is in thirty minutes. My mom agreed to watch Preston all day. Let’s go. I am so excited for spa day.”
Veronica and I spent the morning at the spa. After massages, we sat in the sauna. I had my hair pulled up into a bun, and Veronica was quick to tease me about a red mark at the base of my neck.
“What’s that? A love bite?” Veronica said playfully.
Luckily, in the sauna, my cheeks were already red, and Veronica couldn’t see how embarrassed I was. I said, “I think that’s from the other night when we hooked up in my office.”
Veronica’s jaw dropped. “You’re fucking kidding me. You got frisky in your library office?”
“And at the drive-in movie theater, and by the river, and in the elevator at the hotel this morning,” I said, trying not to beam.
“Wow,” Veronica said, leaning back against the cedar walls. “Now I get why you came with him to Atlanta for a business meeting. You two lovebirds couldn’t be away from each other for one weekend.”
“Also,” I reminded Veronica, “I’m getting to see you.”
“Um, you haven’t been to Atlanta in almost a year, but Ol’ Slick Willy wants to come to town and here you are,” Veronica joked.
“Eww, never say ‘Slick Willy’ again,” I begged.
Veronica ignored me and wiped the sweat from her brow as she said, “So, this is kind of fast. You two have been dating for two weeks, and you’re already going on weekend trips together.”
I shrugged. “I guess if we’re being technical about it, then yes—it is kind of fast. But honestly, William and I were spending so much time together before my birthday, it’s really been months of us talking.”
“Okay, well, if you’re saying this isn’t just a hot sex crush, what do you like so much about William?” Veronica teased.
“He’s handsome and smart. It seems like he’s good at his job and hard-working. He likes to help people.”
Veronica propped her elbow on her knee, leaning forward and resting her chin in her palm. “Go on,” she said in a playful voice.
“Aunt Rita loves him. He loves her. William takes care of his mom. It’s one of his highest priorities. He talks about his mom all the time.” I smiled, but then quickly added, “But not in a red flag way.”
Veronica got up to check the temperature of the rocks. I continued. “He’s funny. He likes to travel. He reads real books, and he isn’t overly impressed by podcasting bros.”
“Ugh, thank goodness. Podcasting bros are the worst.” Veronica said, making the distinct yuck face.
