Her eyebrows shot up. “No. Was it someone you knew?”
“It wasNadine.”
“Shut the fuck up.”
“I walked in on them.”
“Stop. Tell me everything.”
I rattled off all the details, even down to the fact that Nadine wasn’t even fully dressed when I entered the room and caught them.
“What a bitch.”
“I know.”
“I never liked her. She totally gave off mean girl energy.”
I shrugged. Had she? I always thought of her as nothing but a good friend until all this happened.
“What to know the worst part?”
She nodded, her eyes wide.
“They had been sleeping together behind my back formonths.”
“No.”
“Since Cabo.”
“This is too much.” Frankie was shaking her head in disbelief now. “What did your other friends say when they found out?”
I felt tears pricking at the corners of my eyes.
“They knew,” I said.
“Oh, Mattie.” Frankie threw her arms around me and embraced me tightly. “You’re better off without all of those assholes.”
I held up my phone that I had been scrolling on earlier.
“Look,” I said pathetically. “They were all at a housewarming party for Nadine and Garrett last night. That wasmyhouse.”
She snatched the phone out of my hand.
“You cannot look at this. It’s unhealthy.” She tapped the screen a few times. “There, I deleted the app. No more cyberstalking for you.”
I nodded solemnly.
“Now, come on. Let’s go break into the good stuff Dad keeps at the top of the liquor cabinet.”
ChapterEight
I staredat a blank screen as Mike furiously checked his watch for the hundredth time.
“What is with the lack of respect these candidates have? I can’t believe we have another no-show.”
I closed my laptop and gave him a defeated shrug.
He sighed. “I think we have to call it.”
