Chapter Three

“Of course I know who you are,” Mason whispered. “You’re the man who turned my life upside down.”

He obviously hadn’t spoken loud enough for Sebastian to hear because he stomped out the door and slammed it behind him.

He dropped to his knees, his head in his hands. Watching Sebastian walk away hurt far worse than he’d ever expected. Last time, it had been him walking away, or running, as the case had been. He’d been so stupid then, panicked because one night of unbridled passion with a gorgeous brown-haired boy had splayed him wide open. He hadn’t known what to do with all the emotions. He wasn’t gay; he liked women. His parents expected him to get married and have pups. Too young to make sense of it all, he’d run.

And, apparently, he hadn’t stopped. Hiding behind a lie, pretending he didn’t know Sebastian.Such a fucking moron.

In one swift move, he jumped up, ran out the door, and sprinted down the hall.I’m not hiding anymore. He’d face this evening head-on and maybe, finally, experience some true happiness.

As he got to the elevator, the doors closed. Using his shifter speed, he took the stairs two at a time again, making it to the ground floor in plenty of time to greet Sebastian as the doors slid open. His date’s wide-eyed look as he stepped into the car brought a satisfied smile to his lips. The doors closed behind him, and he pressed the stop button so no one else could get in.

“What are you—”

Mason didn’t even give him a chance to finish his question before he had his sexy-as-fuck man pinned against the wall. Sebastian tried to push him away, even put up a token fight, but soon his mouth opened and his body softened except in the one place where he hardened.

So fucking good.

He’d dreamed of this man almost every night for a decade. He had power like no other to simultaneously make him feel alive while killing him with pleasure. Sebastian’s tongue dueled with his as their hips ground against each other’s.

“I’m sorry,” Mason said as he pulled his date tight against him, wanting him as close as possible.

Sebastian went stiff in his arms. “What did you say?”

“I said I’m sorry.”

Suddenly, Sebastian was yelling and pushing at his chest. “Get off me!”

Mason loosened his grip but refused to back more than an inch away. He needed the closeness. “What’s wrong?”

“How dare you use your kisses to make me forget how much of an asshole you are.”

He fought not to smile. He loved hearing his kisses made Seb forget, and the man had every right to be mad at him.

“I’m an asshole…manwhore. I admit it. But please let me explain about now and ten years ago. If you still want to leave once where done talking, I won’t stop you.”

Sebastian crossed his arms over his chest, a contemplative look on his face. After a minute, he nodded.

Not wanting him to change his mind, Mason pushed the button for their floor and the elevator moved.

“You’re going to tell me everything?” Sebastian asked.

Well, maybe not everything. He didn’t need to know about him being a shifter but, hopefully, enough to keep him from walking away. “Yeah, I will. But you have to promise me you will be open-minded.”

Sebastian tilted his head to the side, pursed his lips then nodded in acquiescence. To add insult to injury, he adjusted himself in his pants, winking. It would give Mason a great deal of pleasure to punish him later. He just had to get him to agree to stay the night.

Sebastian wanted to hate Mason. Wanted to run in the other direction and tell him to go fuck himself, but the idea of getting answers after all this time, well, he couldn’t pass that up. He followed the infuriatingly attractive man back to their room then dropped his bag on the bed and sat down.

“So?”

Mason pulled a chair over from the small two-person dining table and sat in front of him. “I’m not sure where to start.”

“How about at the beginning.”

He scoffed but then nodded. “That night, the Halloween party. I’d had a huge argument with my family. They’d been at me again to follow in my father’s footsteps. To do the right thing. I didn’t want to. I wanted to enjoy being young while I still could.”

Sebastian nodded. He understood feeling pressure from others. Every time his mother bugged him about getting married and giving her grandbabies, he wanted to run and hide.
