“I want to know why you’re ignoring me?”
“So, you came all the way over here tonight to ask why I’m ignoring you?”
“Yes.”
“That’snot normal.”
“Why is it not ‘normal’?” Georgina made air quotes, emphasisingthe sarcasm.
“Why does it matter to you?”
“You matter to me.”
Ashley scoffed. “Yeah, okay.”
“Why is that so hardto believe?”
“Oh, I don’t know, maybe because you ripped out my heart on numerous occasions.” Ashley slammed thelocker shut.
“I thought we’d been over this? I said Iwas sorry.”
“Just because you say you’re sorry and then we sleep together, it doesn’t make everything okay.”
Georgina walked towards Ashley, closing the gap between them—there was nowhere for her to retreat. “You’re right, but I am sorry for the way I treated you.”
“You have a funny way ofshowing it.”
“I still care about you and, for what it’s worth, I really would like tobe friends.”
“Friends don’t have sex, Georgina,” Ashley hissed.
“Oh, I must have missedthat memo.”
Ashley composed herself. She would not allow the slip in self-control again—it wasn’t healthy.“Too soon.”
Georgina held up her hands, apologetically. “Can we at least try tobe friends?”
“Why?”
“What do you mean?”
“Why do you want to bemy friend?”
“Because I want youin my life.”
“I don’t know if I can be in your life the way you want me to be.”
There was a brief pause. “Can’t we atleast try?”
“It’s still too raw for me.” Ashley looked deep into the hazel eyes of the woman she used to love. The dimly lit ambience made for an intimate scene. The pain was still present whenever she thought about what theyused to be.
“Will you think about it at least?”
“Being friends?”
“Yes, like real friends. No sex, no flirty messages, just genuine friends.”
“And you could do that?”
