“When are you going to ask her?” Emilyquestioned.
Ashley put her finger to her lips, gesturing for Emilyto be quiet.
“Don’t make ita big deal.”
“It isa big deal.”
“No, it’s not. Nothing will change. It’s a label, that’s all.”
“It is a huge deal. You’re exclusively committing yourself toone person.”
“You’re talking like I’m aboutto propose.”
“One dayyou might.”
“If you carry on, Iwon’t ask.”
“Oh yeah, because that’s such a punishment for me.” Emily rolled her eyes.
“You’re annoying.”
“Thank you, that’s so kind.”
Jason entered Emily’s bedroom and perched elegantly on the edge of the bed. Ashley noted the outfit of choice for the evening was a garish one—no surprise.
“What are my little MVPs talking about in here?”
Ashley grinned at the newest nickname to make the cut.
“Not talking as such, more like Emily annoying me beyond belief and me wondering when she became soirritating.”
“So, a normal Friday night, then?”
“Exactly.” Ashley pointed triumphantly towards Jason.
“In your honest opinion, is this outfit too much?” Jason stood twirling and posing like something out ofAmerica’s Next Top Model.
“The blue leather suit is iconic,” Ashley confirmed.
“Agreed. Only you could pull that off witha mesh top.”
“Girls, you flatter me,” Jason moved his hands over his outfit and stood hand on hip, “but would Tyra Banks approve?”
“I think she’d say every hallway is a runway, honey, so work it.” Ashley figured quoting back his favourite Tyra quote would do the trick.
“Yes! I couldn’t agree more!” There was a brief pause. “Tyra might also ask how you’re feeling about tonight?”
“Not you as well.” Ashley glanced towards the bathroom door. The shower was still running so Madison wouldn’t be able to hear.
“Have you thought about it?”
“What is there to think about? I’m just going to ask her a simple question.”
“True, but you’re not going to ask her at the end of the night absolutely wasted in the backseat of a cab,” he raised his eyebrow, “right? I mean, unless that’syour plan.”
“No, ofcourse not.”
“So?”
