But I didn’t. What kind of creep rubbed his dick on an unconscious girl? It was still amazing to have her stretched out on top of me.

It felt dirty and wrong and so fucking good. I nearly came in my pants a dozen times and she wasn’t even touching my dick.

I let my eyes explore her face, her body, her hair. I traced every inch of her with my eyes. I kept my hands curled into fists to stop myself from touching her. It was nearly impossible. If she had been awake, I wouldn’t have been able to stop myself.

But she slept like an angel.

I felt every hair on my arms stand on end. I was hot and cold at the same time. My balls were heavier than lead.

What the fuck is this girl doing to me?

After the longest two hours of my life, she opened her eyes. Just for a moment. She murmured something and I finally did what I wanted to. I pulled her up and into my arms.

But only to carry her into the bedroom.

“What?” she said sleepily as I pulled back the bedspread and laid her on the sheets. I was quick and efficient as I wrapped her back up again. I hoped her jeans weren’t too uncomfortable to sleep in because I couldn’t risk taking them off. Her shoes were kicked under the coffee table, so I hadn’t had to deal with that.

Yeah, even touching her damn feet might have pushed me over the edge.

“Shh, just get some rest.”

I sat in the chair in the corner of the bedroom, watching her sleep. I was deep in thought. I knew the girl didn’t love me. Might never love me. Hell, she might even hate me for the rest of her life for what I was doing to her. I didn’t even know if I loved her. It was more than that, somehow. What I was feeling was a fuckton closer to obsession.

I wanted to own her. Claim her. Keep her, no matter what she wanted. That didn’t sound like love. It sounded like I was out of my goddamn mind.

Whether it was love or overwhelming lust or the need to possess her, it didn’t matter. Either way, I knew I’d never let her go. And not just because of what she’d seen. It was because every single thing about the girl was branded on me. Her looks. Her sweetness. The quiet intelligence that shone from her beautiful eyes.

I knew I could never, ever, wash her away. Never replace her. No one else would compare.

My mind made up, I slipped out of my suite and down to my brother’s office. There were guards everywhere. I nodded, relieved that Vincent had beefed up security.

The door was open but I rapped on it anyway. My brother was reading at his desk, deeply focused. He was like that with everything. He went deep. The man had a mind like a steel trap.

“You’re up late.”

I nodded and stepped inside to sit in the chair facing him. I didn’t comment on his being awake at this hour. My brother barely slept. Didn’t need to. He’d been like that pretty much since birth.

Something about being a mega genius probably did that to him. Or maybe it was listening to our mother cry night after night. He’d been there with her in those early bad days. I’d only been alive to see the tail end of them.

Thinking about my mother only cemented the idea I’d been circling around since the beginning. Since I saw the girl, really. But especially now.

“We need to talk.”

Chapter 16

Evangeline

“Hello, Evangeline. I’m Vincent.”

It had been two days. Two days since the ‘head incident,’ as I’d come to think of it. I’d slept and eaten and tried to read. I’d watched movies with Antonio, argued with him sometimes, and done my best to ignore him the rest.

I wasn’t exactly succeeding at ignoring him. He was too big. Too handsome. Too manly.

Too in control of my every move. My very existence.

And now I was meeting his older brother.

The two of them stood there, looming over me. They were like a matched set. Both too handsome to be real. Both polite and sophisticated and urbane. Both with a darkness in their eyes that scared me silly.

I shook his offered hand out of habit. It was rough, like Antonio’s. I couldn’t help noticing that his nails were perfect.

“Rock climbing,” he said with a faint smile. He’d noticed that I’d noticed his calluses. The man was practically a mind reader. “Please, sit.”

I sat in one of the massive leather armchairs that faced the even more massive dark wood desk. Antonio sat in the chair next to me, giving me an unreadable look. Vincent sat across from me.

“We have a situation here, Evangeline. Do you understand what that situation is?”
