As always, my gaze drifts back to Sage and I pull her into my side. My protective instincts have always ridden me hard when it comes to Sage but ever since me and my wolf became one the instinct has gotten more severe. The only thing that is reassuring me at the moment is that I know Sage is more than capable of taking care of herself and that was before her gifts were released. I have no doubt that once she has trained and gained some experience she is going to be a force to be reckoned with.
The Director leads us into her office and takes a seat behind her wide desk. Now her scent on the other hand, wavers continuously and I can’t pin down exactly what kind of supernatural she is which is worrying and something that I need to remember to bring up to the others. We all spread out in front of her desk none of us willing to sit down and make an escape take precious seconds longer.
Seeing that we aren’t going to sit the Director quickly stands again and brushes off her skirt.
“Right, well I’ll get straight to the point.” She says her tone cold as shegives Theo a displeased look. Clearly she had another plan entirely for this meeting. “We have had quite a few reports about an altercation between you and Rebecca in the dining hall, is this true?”
“Yes.” Sage say’s simply.
The Director didn’t ask her to explain further and I don’t think she’d let Sage if she tried to now anyway.
“This is unacceptable. I’m afraid I have no choice but to . . .” She starts and is quickly interrupted by Theo.
“Now hang on a minute Director.” He says seemingly shocked that she was about to jump straight to punishment without even hearing our side of anything.
Although I can’t say I’m surprised at all, I try to hold in my growl which really should seem weird to me but I feel like my whole life I’ve only been half a person and now I’m finally not.
Theo turns to us, “what happened?”
“Rebecca threw an energy ball at me in the dining room. I told her in no uncertain terms that I didn’t understand why she didn’t like me but I would not be playing her games. We then finished our food and left.” Sage explains and I try to keep my expression neutral, I can feel shock coming through the Bond from the others too and not just my brothers, it seems that Sage still has us linked into what I’m dubbing the warrior bond.
She told the complete truth, she just left some things out. I don’t really know how Theo’s gift works but he said he detected lies and she didn’t lie.
“She’s telling the truth.” He says with absolute certainty, “If it wasn’t for the fact they are missing I’d seriously be considering action against Rebecca and the others, they could’ve seriously hurt her.”
“That’s not what copious witnesses have said happened.” The Director defends starting to sound slightly unhinged.
“Well I don’t know what to tell you Annie. She’s not lying.” He says again, steel lacing his tone.
I think I like this guy.
“Now come on kids this has taken up enough of your evening.” He says to us as he urges us to stand.
“One last question, did you have any involvement in the disappearance of Rebecca and her team?” The Director asks.
“No.” Sage says her voice colder than I’ve ever heard.
“She’s not lying.” Theo says flatly before rushing us out.
I am so proud of Sage and I can’t wait to finally tell her that I love her.
We all agreed to wait to tell her exactly how strong our feelings are for her so that we don’t freak her out. She’s not used to people caring about her and odd things can set her off. All of that just makes her Ours though and I’m willing to wait for as long as it takes.
I’m not going anywhere.
None of us are.
Chapter Twenty
Sage
“Very well done Sage.” Theo comments as soon as we are free and I frown.
I really don’t know what to make of him.
“Get to your lesson, you should be just in time. I’ll make sure to spread around that you passed the lie test. That should help stop the animosity you are all receiving and I’ll try to get some news on Nicole for you.” He continues.
“Thank you.” I say, I may feel dodgy about whether he’s got good intentions or not but I can still be polite.
