Whilst I kind of get where he’s coming from I am still filled with relief, glad that I could at least help in some way since I’m feeling pretty damn useless sat here handcuffed to a damn chair.
However, it does piss me off that he thinks that I would just not help any of them if they get injured. I am not letting any injury they get create an opening for someone to hurt to them further or potentially kill them just because they’re worried that my magic may run out. Even though it’s shown no sign of doing so thus far.
Besides, even if my magic did run out I am far from vulnerable. I think they find it far too easy to forget that I literally fought tooth and nail growing up. I was trained by the best assassin known to the human world. I am more capable than most and that thought process has me remembering who the fuck taught me and the rules he always instilled in me.
Number fucking one on the list?
Never go anywhere without a bobby pin and guess what? That rule was drilled into me so hard that I automatically include it in all of my outfits. I even make sure that I have one on me whilst I sleep. Whether that’s clipped onto the top band of my underwear or, thank fuck that I didn’t want to test our limits and our powers and decided to put actual pyjamas on because it means I have one clipped to the long sleeve of my pyjama top. Which is way easier for me to get to and means that I have a way to escape, I should be able to undo the wide iron handcuffsdespite how ancient they look.
Cain was very thorough in his training and taught me on all different types of handcuffs and restraints, he actually taught me how to escape manacles just like these and now that I’m thinking about it, it doesn’t really make any sense why he did. Manacles aren’t found in the human realm at all, if ever and his insistence on me training with swords doesn’t quite fit either.
It’s starting to make me wonder if everything was as it seemed with him, he was an elusive assassin who had made quite a name for himself and I haven’t seen him for years so I guess I’ll never know.
Unfortunately the manacles are quite wide and it’s going to take me a while to get to the bobby pin hidden in my sleeve, I turn my attention back to the fight whilst I contort my hand and fingers, gradually moving so I can reach it.
The Creep must really not want to be identified because he doesn’t use any sort of gift that could give away what kind of supernatural he is. Obviously the speed and strength are pretty universal to all supernatural’s so that gives nothing away.
His lack of willingness to use his gifts does put him at a disadvantage though and Kai manages to get his sword through his guard and slices his arm, making him bellow in pain and shock. In retaliation he strikes out with the pommel of his sword and smashes Kai on the side of his head, Kai manages to move slightly so the skull cracking blow only splits his eyebrow and doesn’t render him unconscious or worse dead.
He staggers slightly and I try to send healing magic down the bond again, pausing in my efforts to reach the bobby pin so I can focus fully. He’s not allowing it through though no matter how hard I try to send it and I give up with a quiet growl of my own. I will be having words with all of them about this because it is not ok. We are a team and we are equal. Normally they are very good at remembering that.
I redouble my efforts to reach the bobby pin if only so I can smack Kai upside the head for being such a fucking dumbass. I watch helplessly as the fight intensifies and I’m actually impressed that Kai has been able to hold his own against the Creep for so long. Not that I doubt Kai’s abilities in a fight, I know he is more than capable but the Creep is obviously incredibly powerful, he’s run the Order for I’m guessing about a thousand years.
“You are lucky that I haven’t properly fed!” The Creep growls between blows almost answering my thoughts which is disturbing.
I finally manage to reach the bobby pin in my sleeve the pain in my wrist is intense and blood drips between my fingers, making them slick. Fortunately pain is not a new thing for me and I push it back, partially blocking it like I did at the warehouse with Brent. I’m too scared to lose myself completely again if I fully shut down my emotions though and that means that I have to clench my teeth, just focus on the task and thefact that Kai is starting to slow down, blood dripping down the side of his face but thankfully not into his eye.
I grasp the bobby pin between two of my fingers and twist my hand at a seriously questionable angle working the pin in the lock, it takes me a while and Kai is starting to let through more hits the more his energy depletes.
Finally I hear the lock click and one of the manacles pops open allowing me to pull my bloodied hand free. I quickly release my other hand somewhat grateful that although its scraped and rubbed raw its not dripping blood like my other hand. I jump up and start in the direction of the fight at the other end of the large dining room.
“Come on!” I mutter trying to call my swords forward, they don’t budge from the tattoos on my forearms though and I frustratingly shake my arms as I glance around looking for a weapon of some sort.
Creep is not stupid though because although this setting is a medieval castle it’s missing suits of armour or swords on the walls or anything remotely helpful. My gaze moves towards his end of the table and the half-eaten head.
Fucking hell that’s disgusting.
Sure enough though he was using a steak knife in order to cut into it. I rush to that end trying to stay quiet so he doesn’t notice me but move quickly since Kai is fading fast. I don’t want to use my magic in case it somehow gives me away, I crouch low to the floor and finally reaching the head I grab the knife just as he once again launches Kai across the room with a powerful kick.
Kai flies into the wall with an almighty crash crying out in pain as one of his wings gets stuck underneath him as they try to stop him from landing so hard.
He crumples to the floor and struggles to stand unable to get his feet underneath him thanks to pain and exhaustion. I rush towards him, his eyes widening in panic as he spots me and he tries harder to stand. Creep steps forward, twirling his sword and clearly showing off.
“I’m going to enjoy ending you boy. I must say you put up quite a fight, impressive but not enough.” He says smugly.
He swings the sword in a wide arc aiming straight for Kai’s neck. I panic and launch my only weapon at him, my aim true as always and striking him in the shoulder, he barely pauses in his motion though and my soul cries out in anguish as I think it’s the end for Kai.
In a blink, I find myself crouched in front of him blocking him from the attack with no real idea of how I got here, just before the sword makes contact with me, Kai yelling in distress as he wraps a strong arm around my waist and pulls me tightly against his fallen form, there’s a flash of pure purple magic and Nyx is between us and the Creep, her sword blocking his from impaling us.
“Sorry I’m late,” she smirks over her shoulder at us her eyes twinklingwith amusement and making me smile. “The fucker had protections all around this place it took me a while to get through.” The whole time she’s talking Creep is straining against her sword.
“Your spell will wear off soon witch!” He growls and I realise that the blast of magic that Nyx arrived in also did something to him.
“You though Kai, I am impressed with. It took my men decades of being my Bonded to work out how to come after me when I got trapped in one of these.” She says completely ignoring Creep.
“Thank you.” Kai says sounding slightly awestruck.
“Speaking of my Bonded, they’ll be arriving any minute now and it’s time for you to get back. It’s nearly time Daughter. Be ready.” She says seriously before Creep starts to move more, a vicious growl building in his chest. She smiles reassuringly in our direction and her purple magic envelops us.
