If it were up to my dad, I’d be settling down, getting married or some bullshit. More for appearances than actually wanting me to find someone I loved.

And when I thought about someone like Preston, I felt like a schmuck. The man had survived cancer, for fuck’s sake, and he wanted to help cancer patients cope with their diagnosis and treatment. Sure, I bought some apps, helped get them into the hands of the people who needed them, and made some money in the process. I even donated to charities. But what was I really contributing to the world?

Then there was my sister Kate. She was training to be a doctor. She would literally save lives. And the thought of her being injured, or worse—made my heart clench in my chest. My current celibate status was the least of my concerns.

“Hunter?” Toby stepped forward, his tone concerned.

I sighed, knowing I needed to get my shit together. I was going back to LA in a few weeks. I just needed to hold it together until then. “Yeah, I know.”

“Remind me why you agreed to this again?”

“Because when I win—”

“Don’t you mean if?”

“No,” I ground out. “WhenI win, he will finally let me do something I’ve wanted to for a long time.”

“Fuck him in the ass?” Toby asked in an offhanded manner, and I chuckled.

“No, man.” I gripped his shoulder as I headed for the door, back to the conference room to resume our negotiations. “That’s what I have you for.”
