I straightened, prepared to knee him in the balls if necessary. While I hadn’t planned to use the information from my PI against Luther yet, his current actions convinced me he’d never change. He wasn’t going to get away with this—not again. Not with me.
I glared at him. “Back away now, or I’ll sue your ass for sexual harassment.”
“Please,” he scoffed. “No one would believe it—not with your reputation. Does it ever bother you that you had to open your legs to get a client to open his wallet?”
“I’m warning you,” I ground out, lifting my foot ever so slightly, poised to attack. “You will regret this.”
“Oh yeah,” he scoffed. “I’d like to see you try.”
“I have five other women who will testify to the same effect.”
Something in his eyes flared, and I knew I had his attention. He didn’t lower his hands, but he backed away enough so I could breathe again.
“Here’s what’s going to happen.” I stared him down, wanting him to know that I was not intimidated. “First, you’re going to resign from the design board.”
On this, I would not yield. He’d been using the platform and his position to take advantage of up-and-coming designers through the internship program.
His expression was firm, unyielding. But I wasn’t finished. And he wasn’t nearly as composed as he’d like me to believe. His skin was turning red, and though I feared his reaction, I couldn’t stop. I wouldn’t.
“You’re also going to drop the bet and stop harassing me. In fact, you will apologize to every woman you have harassed.” I glared at him.Scum.“I have their contact details if needed.”
“But…” he sputtered. “Even if I did harass them as you claim, apologizing would be akin to admitting it. If I…” He gasped, eyes wide. “If they ever sued, I’d be screwed.”
“Should’ve considered that before you harassed them,” I said with no pity. This asshole needed to be put in his place once and for all.
He stumbled back a few feet, but I wasn’t done. I stalked toward him, getting up in his face. I cupped him through his slacks, and his eyes widened at my aggressiveness. I wanted to laugh at his pathetic size.
“If you ever, and I do mean ever, harass another woman,” I said, my eyes intent on his. He was breathing heavily, and it wasn’t due to arousal. No, I smelled fear. “I will cut off your dick. Do I make myself clear?”
When he didn’t answer, I narrowed my eyes and gave a little tug. “Yes,” he yelped. “Perfectly.”
I regarded him a moment longer before releasing him. “Good.”
I spun on my heels, striding toward the door with my head held high and a smile on my lips. Luther wouldn’t bother me again. And hopefully, he’d heed my warning. Because I would not stand by and allow another woman to become his innocent victim.
I stalked past his assistant, reaching into my purse for some hand sanitizer. I wanted to submerge my hand in a vat of it after touching Luther, but this would have to do for now.
Once outside, I nearly skipped to my car. I felt surprisingly light, almost giddy. And my first thought was that I couldn’t wait to tell Hunter. I rushed home, hoping he’d be there, even though it was early.
His car was in the garage, and I parked behind him before going through the door. Riley jumped up to greet me, and I crouched down to pet her. “Hey, girl. Let me go talk to Hunter, and then maybe we can go for a walk.”
I could’ve sworn she smiled as I ruffled the fur on her head.
“Hunter,” I called as I climbed the stairs. “You home?”
I briefly wondered if he’d gone to work out, but then I heard his voice coming from the direction of his office. He sounded agitated. I hadn’t intended to eavesdrop, but I couldn’t help but overhear him say, “I told you not to call me.”
He slammed something on the desk, and I hoped it wasn’t his phone. I waited a second then peeked my head around the corner. He was hunched over the desk, palms pressed to the surface as he took deep breaths. The sunlight bounced off his golden strands, his head bowed as if in prayer.
“Hey,” I said.
He jolted upright as if I’d startled him, quickly composing his features into a neutral expression. “Hey.”
I leaned against the doorframe. “Everything okay?”
“Yeah.” He pulled at his collar. “Yeah, of course. Just one of those stupid telemarketers.”
I frowned, wondering why he seemed so angry if that’s all it was.
