The guys and I have been in a panic since Aly left. She ran out before we could give her all the information about the mating bond and we have no idea how she’s taking it. It’s torture to know your mate is struggling but to have no idea how to help her. She’s ignoring our calls and texts and anytime one of us goes to her apartment, Anna turns us away.
I try calling her again and it goes right to voicemail, I’m pretty sure she’s turned her phone off.
“What are we going to do?” I ask the group, all of us gathered in the living room.
Jeremy doesn’t look up from his clenched knuckles. He’s been sitting in the armchair brooding between every visit he takes to her apartment. I know it’s worse for him since he has the bond, besides being apart, he’s feeling how she’s doing and it’s clearly not good.
“I need to go back,” Jeremy finally says and he gets up and goes right to the door to leave. No room for discussion from any of us.
Nic flicks his wrist and mutters a spell, blocking Jeremy from leaving.
“Stop. We can’t keep going over there, Anna might call the cops on us or something. We are bordering on harassment at this point,” Nic commands.
“I need to get closer to her,” Jeremy shouts while pounding against the invisible wall Nic created. He sounds desperate and I feel terrible for him. I’ve never seen him show this much emotion.
“We know,” Jax says, standing up and walking over to him, “let’s make a plan then you can go. Okay?”
Jeremy gives a sharp nod, then Jax leads him back to his seat before sitting down himself.
“So we need to speak with Aly, to explain what she’s feeling and why but she’s using Anna as a shield and probably turned her phone off,” I state the problem, gazing around for a solution.
“I doubt she will miss class over this, we could catch her on campus tomorrow,” Jay suggests looking eager at the idea of finally seeing her.
Jay has been acting like a kicked puppy since Aly left. He’s been smelling every change in emotion through Jeremy and that’s been making things worse and worse. He’s not experiencing them, but he knows they’re happening.
At first, I used my empathy gift to know too but it was painful and not productive. I turned it off and while I can imagine how everyone is feeling, at least I’m not experiencing it all the time. I hope Jax did the same.
Nic shakes his head, “no, we can’t talk to her about this in public and I doubt she’ll willingly go with us somewhere private, based on how she’s feeling right now.”
That’s a valid point. We don’t need to draw the humans’ attention.
“So we just need to get past Anna and see her tonight,” Jeremy says, starting to stand up again.
This time Nic puts a hand on his shoulder and lightly pushes him back into his seat.
“We need a plan for getting past Anna first Jer, sit tight.”
“We could use magic,” I hesitantly suggest. I hate suggesting it, it feels wrong to use magic on Anna. I know Aly wouldn’t approve or appreciate it.
Jax shakes his head, “no we can’t and I know you don’t want to. Aly would be more upset about that than anything else that’s happened.”
I nod, a sense of relief filling me at the idea being shot down.
“Okay, maybe we can try to explain to Anna why we need to talk to Aly,” Jay suggests.
“Ya, that’ll go well, hey Anna, listen I know this sounds crazy but we told Aly we are magic and that she’s forever bonded to Jeremy. We all want that with her too but for some reason she ran off and is avoiding us, can we please talk to her?” I respond in my most sarcastic voice.
“Okay, smart ass, why don’t you suggest something then?” Jay respond, clearly agitated at his second idea being shot down so quickly. But I know I had a fair point.
“Rein it in, we are all on edge but we need to work together not be at each other’s throats,” Nic snaps at us.
We all lean back and try to appear relaxed at his command but I’m pretty sure none of us achieve it.
Jeremy looks up, his face lighting up with hope, “I think she’s getting closer, she’s furious but I think she’s coming here.”
We all jump up at that, Jeremy is slower to get up like he’s making sure she’s really getting closer. But since he doesn’t seem like he’s about to bolt, I’m guessing she is.
“She could have gotten frustrated and wants answers,” Jay suggests.
