I nod my head, eager to hear about what Jax can do.
“Well, as a light fae I need to gain power by absorbing happy emotions. I can’t do as much unless I have power in my well. When I do, I can sense other people’s emotions and make them feel certain positive emotions, like calm. I can also manipulate light to my will as a form of defense or even offense, but it’s stronger as a defense.”
So he filled me with calmness when I was freaking out about Kate, interesting.
“That’s really cool Jax, thanks for telling me.”
The logical next choice is Kiran, since his powers will probably be similar to his twin but he turns away and instead Jeremy starts.
“Well, as you know I am a demon. My blood is powerful and has healing properties. I have some magic but it’s not like Nic’s.”
That’s all he says, not explaining any further and I roll my eyes at him but let it slide for now. I’m sure I can convince him to show me sometime. Words aren’t his strong suite but actions are.
I gaze at Kiran and he’s glum, not an expression I’m used to seeing on him.
“What is it Kiran? Do you not want to tell me?” I ask, concerned.
“Dark fae don’t have the best reputation Aly, I don’t want you to think differently about me,” he confesses.
“I would never! Kiran, I know you and what you are won’t change that, I promise.”
He nods, “okay, well it’s very similar to Jax but the opposite. Instead of getting power from positive emotions I get them from negative and instead of being able to cause positive emotions, I cause negative.”
He looks away, not giving me a chance to show him I’m okay with that.
“So? Your powers are opposite,” I get up and go sit on Kiran’s lap. His arms automatically go around me but I have to turn his head towards me to make eye contact, “it changes nothing. I think it’s cool, I want you to show me sometime, okay?”
He picks up a little, his shoulders dropping and his arms feeling less stiff around me.
“I think that’s enough for now, I’m sure I’ll learn more just being around you guys,” I say to the group. This gave me enough of an idea for now but I want to see them all in action. I’ve already gotten to see Jay and Nic, which helped me understand their powers more quickly. I have a feeling it’s going to take a lot of coaxing to get Kiran to show me his.
They all nod so I turn to Jax and ask, “should we go work on our project?”
“Ya, let’s do it,” he says, standing up. He reaches out and helps me out of Kiran’s lap and we head up to his room.
Sixteen
Aly
I’m so happy to get some alone time with Jax, with everything going on it’s been hard to come by.
We are set up in his room to work on our assignment. I’m excited to be in a more personal setting with him, I wondered if he would choose the kitchen over his room but he led me here.
I like being in Jax’s room, it really reflects him. There are computers and monitors everywhere. It’s basically a tech nerds dream, so I’m incredibly jealous. The rest of his space is pretty bare, clearly he spent the most time on his technology set up.
He created a nice workspace for us and we settle in with our books and computers surrounding us.
We get right to work on our project and as always Jax is incredible. He always knows what he’s doing and can solve any problems I have. It’s incredible that he already knows all of this, I wonder why he does?
“How did you get into code?” I ask, “clearly you’ve been doing it for a while.”
“Well, I’ve always been inquisitive and when I read a book about it, I got really invested. I started reading more and actually working with the code. It made a lot of sense to me so I kept going until I was completely invested,” he explains.
“Why take this class then?” I ask.
“Well, I want the degree and to get that, I have to take the class. Plus, I can’t help but feel like it’s fate, since I have it with you,” he says.
I blush but go back to how he knows so much. He needs to know how amazing that is.
