Luckily, when she used that skill, her spell over Griffyn lifted. He overwhelms the roof with pheromones sending her to her knees.
They’re all directed at her, otherwise, I would be incapacitated as well.
She struggles against his powers but it’s useless. Griffyn is too strong and right now he’s at full power.
I shift back. Griffyn tosses me his jacket since I destroyed my clothes in the shift. It only really covers my dick but that’s okay.
“We have to take her,” I say.
Griffyn grimaces. “If she’s part of the drug trade they’ll know someone was out here if she doesn’t return.”
A growl forms low in my throat when she tries to send a spell at me. “Better than her telling them for sure.”
I pull out some spelled cuffs that we bring on every job just in case and use them on her. When I get close enough to clip them, sparks fly out of her hands burning me but I ignore the pain and close them.
The sparks cut off instantly.
“Let’s meet with Aksel. He’s probably freaking out.” I watch Griffyn spread his wings wide in a graceful arc as he takes flight with the mage in his arms.
With my snow leopard agility, I leap onto the next rooftop, landing with ease on the balls of my feet. Cats always land on their feet.
“Wow, you never cease to amaze me with those jumps,” Griffyn grins, the wind ruffling his black hair as we catch up to Aksel’s position below.
“Coming from someone who can fly, that means a lot,” I chuckle, still keeping an eye on Aksel. He moves cautiously, using a transport charm. In an instant, he vanishes from sight.
“Alright, let’s join him at the meeting point,” I say.
In unison, we both transport out to the predetermined location where we left the car. As I materialize near the SUV, I find Aksel already waiting, leaning against the side with crossed arms.
His eyebrows raise when he sees the girl in Griffyn’s arms.
“Nice of you two to finally join me. Run into trouble?” Aksel asks sarcastically.
“Let’s get going,” I suggest, unlocking the car and sliding into the back seat. Griffyn throws her in the back and then claims shotgun while Aksel gets behind the wheel, his silence heavy and foreboding.
The moment the car door slams shut, Aksel uses his powers to block the trunk off so we can talk. His voice is tense with urgency. “When I got there, it felt…off. Like someone was watching me. And then there was a note. Clearly, I was right.”
I glance over at Griffyn, who’s staring intently at Aksel as well. We both share a silent understanding of the unease that’s creeping into the air around us.
“What did the note say?” Griffyn asks, his voice low and cautious.
“Just leave the package. I didn’t even get to see anyone there,” Aksel says, frustrated.
“This mage joined us on the rooftop and attacked. We subdued her pretty easily. Hopefully, we can get information from her but they’ll know she’s gone by now,” I say.
“You did the right thing,” Aksel confirms, making me relax.
We all sit in silence for an hour before it becomes too much for me.
I glance over at Griffyn, and in an attempt to lighten the mood, I lean forward and lick his ear.
“Hey!” he exclaims, feigning annoyance as he swats me away. “What was that for?”
I glance back at Aksel. To my surprise, I see a hint of a smile playing at the corners of his lips.
“Maybe,” Aksel chimes in, his voice dripping with sarcasm, “he wants to annoy you the way you annoy the rest of us.”
I burst out laughing.
