“See ya then, love.”
Chapter 6
Juan
I slam my hand down on my phone that’s on my nightstand to turn my alarm off. I’ve been up for a few minutes, just lying here thinking. Today’s the first day both Jon and I get to spend some actual time with Jane. Thinking back to yesterday and going to see Rory, I was surprised he had not only heard about Jane from Ry, but thanks to Pa, had gotten a letter from her. I’d gone into the visit with him with a plan to talk about her a little bit and let him know I think she’s worth getting to know. It left Jon speechless I think when Rory brought her up and about how much he liked her note and that she sounded interesting. He may not admit it, but he’s definitely interested. I’ve never known him to let anyone drive his truck, let alone for five days. He feels the tug. That’s why he insisted on going with Jane while she shops for a car. I invited myself along. If anything, I can hopefully get to see her smile a few times.
I take care of my morning routine in the bathroom, shower, get dressed and head to the kitchen to get some coffee.
As I am grabbing a mug out of the cabinet, I hear Jon coming out of his room. It makes me realize here pretty soon, I’ll get to hear Rory coming out of his room.
“Mornin’,” grumbles Jon. He drinks down his first cup of coffee within the first couple of minutes, then after, he starts his second cup. He states. “We’re taking your truck over there. I don’t want to leave my bike there without knowin’ the neighborhood she lives in.” I nod my agreement and grab my wallet, keys and cut.
“Let’s go. You said we were meetin’ her at ten and I don’t want to be late.”
Jon
“Woman. I told you at the last place, when you’re with any male in my family, you don’t open your own car door.”
Jane huffs at me. “I’m not purposely ignoring you, Jon. It’s just not something I’m used to. The only people who’ve ever opened doors for me were my dad and stepdad, and neither of them have been able to do that for years. My ex-husband sure as shit never did that for me.”
Juan chimes in, “You were married? What kind of guy let you go?”
“The kind that wanted me to be his maid so he could sleep with any woman he wanted. Now, this dealership we are going to last is the one. I think it’s got the most vehicles in my price range. Thank you guys for coming with me today. I can’t imagine this is how either of you wanted to spend your Saturday.”
She just doesn’t get it. She has kept us both entertained all day, whether it was putting a salesman in place about who is buying the car, or about exactly how she wanted her sandwich at lunch. Yes, she actually ate food. It’s refreshing to see a woman know what she wants.
“Darlin’, both Juan and I wouldn’t be here if we didn’t want to be. We both want to make sure you get into a vehicle that’s safe for all four seasons around here.”
There’s that little blush on her cheeks I’m really beginning to enjoy. It seems to appear anytime we either give her a compliment or call her something other than her name. What sort of fuckers has she been around?
“J is right, Jane. We’re here because we want to be. Believe me, you couldn’t get Jon to do anything he doesn’t want to.”
Hearing her giggle next to me as I head to the last stop of the day has me grabbing the steering wheel so I don’t reach over and put a hand on her luscious thigh. Fuck, I admit it. Juan was right. This last week of texting her and hanging with her today has shown me that Jane is someone I want to get to know, including how amazing she would look under me.Fuck.I try to slowly adjust my hardening cock as I recite the lineup of the Seahawks. I pull into the parking lot a few minutes later.
She actually remembers to let Juan open the door for her, though I saw her hand twitch a few times. So she can listen to directions.Fuck.
Jane
“Thank you guys for letting me drag you all over town. I’m glad I found something that works for me. This will get me to all my clients’ homes even when it is snowing out. Now, I’m not in the league of a cook like your Ma is, but would you guys like to come over for dinner as a thank you? My friend Nicky is coming over, but he’s not off for another hour or so.” Juan has a strange expression on his face as he and Jon do that silent communication thing I’ve noticed they do.
“Sure, we can come over darlin’. Thanks for inviting us. We’ll follow you home.”
I get in my new car and head toward home. I glance at my purse and I realize my excitement isn’t just for my new car, or having dinner with some new friends, but also I’m eager to dive into the letter Juan gave me from Rory. Hopefully, he wasn’t too put out by some strange woman writing to him. I guess I should take it as a good sign that he wrote back and didn’t just tell his brothers to tell me to stop.
I pull into my driveway and Jon parks behind me. I hear the guys get out as I head up the stairs.
“I should warn you, I’ve got a mean guard dog and he might even get off the couch and bark at you once.”
Jon chuckles and points to Juan. “Oh, well, this one here seems to get all the dogs riled up usually. I don’t know why but he always has.”
I open the door and look for Tyger as I set my purse and keys down. He’s on his throne of blankets on my couch. He sees me come in and starts to get up. He glances at Juan and barely acknowledges him, but he takes one look at Jon and starts barking like a maniac. He runs straight at Jon. This dog runs as often as I do, which is never. We all watch him run to him and slide to a sitting position right in front of Jon. Tyger then rolls over and shows him his belly. This has Jon laughing and looking at Juan.
“Guess he knows who the real Alpha in the room is.” Juan huffs a “Whatever” as he follows me into the kitchen to get them beer and start dinner. I quickly text Nicky to let him know it won’t just be us for dinner. My phone dings back with his response—so many emojis, exclamations and question marks. I told him about them, but he’s the only man besides my brother who has been in my house for years.
I start pulling out the ingredients to make dinner. I’ve got the stuff for salad, spaghetti with meat sauce and of course garlic bread. I do love my carbs after all. My hips may be a bit too much.
I put together dinner as I hear the guys playing with Tyger, or the dog pretending to be Tyger, because my dog has never been one to play catch and he’s currently doing his own version of that. I know I’ve heard of body snatchers. Do they also have dog snatchers? That’s really the only explanation I can think of for what is going on in my backyard at the moment.
