Jane nods her head while chewing on her bottom lip. J reaches up and grabs her chin in his hand to get her attention.

“Babygirl, we’re going to take care of this.” He leans down and gives her the gentlest kiss I’ve ever seen him give.

I know I’m not going to be okay with leaving her here while we go to Ma and Pa’s. Before I can tell her she needs to come with us, Rory goes the diplomatic route.

“Beautiful, I know you said we should have our family meal without you, but I would really like it if you joined us. I know you think this is nothing and it might be, but it could be something. I know I won’t be able to enjoy myself if I’m worried about you here alone.”

Smart fucker. He knew she wouldn’t agree if he just demanded, like I was about to do, but this has a chance of working as I can see the wheels turning in her head.

“Okay, but I don’t have anything ready to bring. I could mix something up really quick. I—”

“Baby, you don’t have to bring something every time you come over. You can come just as you are. We—”

“Yes I do. When someone has you over for a meal, you bring something. It’s the right thing. It’s what you do. My granny would roll over in her grave if I didn’t bring something. Oh, I have some cookies I made and didn’t bring yesterday, so I’ll bring those.”

This woman. She most definitely has her beliefs and isn’t going to be a pushover with us. I have a feeling she’s going to keep us on our toes.

“We came in Jon’s truck so we can all go together and bring you back home afterward. You can even bring Tyger with you if you want.”

She looks at me like I have a screw loose. I see Rory texting away, knowing he’s giving Ry a heads up so he can let Ma know.

“Ma would be okay with me bringing a dog to Sunday supper?”

Jon getting at what I’m thinking, jumps in, “Babygirl, Ma loves dogs. We always had them growing up. She lost her last dog a year or so ago and just hasn’t decided on getting another one yet.”

“Alright, well, give me a couple minutes to get his leash and the cookies ready and we’ll go with you. I can tell y'all have other reasons for wanting me and Tyger to go with you. I’m not going to ask right now, but you better believe that at some point, I’m going to want some answers and they’re going to need to be the truth.”

Watching her walk back to her room to get what she needs, I can see both Ror and Jon let out a breath.

“That, brothers, is her dad coming out. She is so much stronger than she thinks and is gonna keep us on our toes. I have a feeling that telling her things fall under club business isn’t always going to work with her.”

Realizing just how right Rory is, I know we can’t put cameras up without talking to her about it.

“Fuck, how mad do you think she’d be if we have the prospects put the cameras up at her door while we’re at Ma and Pa’s?”

“Pretty fucking mad, I’d say.”

Fuck.

Spinning around, I see Jane standing there with a leash in her hand and both her hands on her hips. Her eyes feel like daggers going through me at this moment.

“Now, baby, I—”

Her hand flies up, shutting me up faster than Ma can.

“I know why you want to put up cameras, and I’m not against it. If you bothered to ask me instead of going all caveman, thinking I didn’t need to be in the know, you would know I bought one yesterday to put up myself.” As she’s putting me in my place, she pokes me in the chest.

“You tell me I need to remember to let you open the door and carry things in, along with calling you when things happen, but I think you forget I have done things on my own for a long time. I won’t be someone you can control and run over like that. There’s no reason for you not to tell me this. It’s not club business and involves me directly. If you think you can do that to me, you've got another thing coming, mister.”

Knowing that this isn’t the time to let her know this side of her completely turns me on and that she’s making me harder than college algebra, all I do is nod.

“Glad you’re clear on that now. Go ahead and call whatever prospects you were going to have come and install cameras without my knowledge and have them install the one I bought. You can also let them know as long as they leave my planter boxes out front alone, I’ll bring them some treats tomorrow for having to come out on a Sunday to work.

“Now, Jon, go get Tyger, please, while these two help me get the cookies, so I can get my purse. Then we can get going and not be ridiculously late to your ma’s supper table.”

Kind of still in shock that she just told us all what to do, we all mumble some form of a, “Yes ma’am,” and do what she asks.
