Juan asks, “She didn’t say what they left in the house did she?”

I shake my head no but don’t speak as we turned the corner onto her street.

Jameson barely has stopped the truck when I hop out, seeing red, as Jane has opened the door and come down the front steps.

“I know I said to wait in the house with the doors locked till we knocked, babygirl.”

“I was watching out the window for you guys and didn’t want to wait for you to get inside.”

By the time she finished speaking, she was in my arms, hugging me tightly. I realize she’s even more scared than she’s let on. Whoever this asshole is, we need to find him and take care of him.

“I didn’t touch anything, and it looks like everything was left on the table. They put Tyger in my bedroom, but nothing else looks touched.”

I let her go hug Ror then Juan.

“Babygirl, you stay out here while we check things out.” Looking at Jameson, I say, “You go check out the backyard. See if you can tell if they came in that way. J, you stay out here with her while Ror and I check out inside and what was left.”

As we start to head inside, Jane asks us, “Do you want what they left yesterday too?”

Red starts clouding my vision again.

“There was something left yesterday? Why are we just hearing about it now?”

Glaring at me, she lets us know.

“’Cause I didn’t find it till just before bed. It was in my mailbox and I was too tired to do anything about it. This morning, I looked at the camera footage and the only one who was on it all day was my mailman, and he looks like he’s about eighty.”

Knowing that I’m close to losing it, Ror speaks up, “What did they leave yesterday and where is it?”

“It’s on the kitchen counter and it's a box with a pair of angel earrings.”

We head into the house. I want to make sure there is nothing else before we decide if we need to make that call.

“Ror, check the bedroom back there and the bathroom. I’m gonna check over here.”

“On it.”

Looking all over the living room, kitchen, and laundry room, I don’t see anything out of the norm. Walking over to the table, Ror comes up behind me.

“Okay, I know she said white roses and the lilies mean purity and this necklace is an angel. That goes with what’s been left before but what the fuck is up with a bell and a ribbon on it?” Ror asks what I was wondering as well.

Looking at the table, there are white rose petals all over it, a bouquet of a few lilies in a vase, an open box with the necklace, and next to it is the bell.

“Maybe we ask her. I mean, she’s the one who knew what the flowers meant. Whoever is leaving this shit, is leaving all of it for her,” Ror suggests.

Nodding my agreement, we both head back outside. Jameson is walking around the side of the house as we walk out the door.

“You see anything out back, brother?”

“Yeah, it looks like they possibly got in through a back window. It’s not broken, but it looks like the lock on it wasn’t locked.”

“It should’ve been. I keep all my windows locked. If I open any, I lock them back up when I close them.”

Juan pipes in, “We’ll look at it again, baby. What was on the table?”

Ror tells him what we saw, and he asks the question that we were wondering. “What’s the bell mean?”

Jane pipes up, “It’s from that old Christmas movie. You know, where they say that every time a bell rings, an angel gets their wings. I used to watch that every year with my grandma.”
