“So, what’s with you and Mick?”

Watching her, I see the blush come over her cheeks.

“Nothin’ is with me and Mick. We’re friends, that’s all. When Rory went away, he started coming over more and making sure I was okay. Do I like him? Yeah. Am I his type? Not even close. He’s always dated those tall model types and I’m nothin’ like them.”

“Glad I’m not the only one who sees somethin’ between ‘em. Sis thinks I’m seeing things,” Kierstie chimes in.

I shake my head.

“You may think he’s not interested, but the daggers he was staring in this direction when Ma brought up that guy in the library would say differently.”

Watching her chew her lip and looking nervous, I need her to know. “Mads, I won’t say anything to anyone, especially your brothers.”

“You won’t?”

“Nope, you’re a grown woman and I know those three would go all caveman protective on you when you’re more than capable of figuring things out yourself. I also know if you ever need them, you’d come talk to them.”

“That right there is why you’re our favorite. Looks like they’re starting a fire. Should we invade?” Kierstie is already walking in that direction when she asks.

Mads and I start to stand up, which turns out to be harder than I thought it would be. Damn tequila has me walking like a newborn calf.

“Baby, wanna walk over there with me?” Seeing that dimple on Juan that I happen to know tastes delicious, almost as much as his dimple further south, I nod. Fuck.

“Did I say that shit out loud?”

I spin around as I hear laughter break out behind me. Ry, the ass, is bent over, laughing his ass off. He wheezes, trying to catch his breath. “You know I’m not one prone to violence, but I really wanna kick your ass right now, Ry.” This only sends him into even more laughter.

Grabbing my chin and giving me a toe-curling kiss, Juan breaks the kiss with a huge grin.

“Baby, I don’t care who knows about my dimples, ’cause I know only you are seeing all of them.”

“Ewwwww. Big brother, I didn’t need that visual. Just eww.” Mads makes a gagging sound as Ry walks her over to the firepit.

Juan

Watching Jane attempt to walk over to the firepit was laughable. Realizing her brain-to-mouth filter doesn’t work much when she’s had some tequila is pure comedy gold. She’s gonna be feeling it in the morning.

Jane falls into a seat between me and Rory.

“How’s it goin’, gentleman? You getting settled alright?”

Her uncle Ben pipes up, “We are darlin’. Your men got us set up in our own rooms and gave us a tour of the clubhouse. How’s the hand? Did you smack or punch her earlier?”

“Pfff, I only smacked her. She wasn’t worth hurting my hand. You know there’s only one woman on this planet I’d consider hurting it for, and she just isn’t worth it anymore.” She knows how to fight? I guess given her dad, that shouldn’t surprise me that she can.

Tim nods at her.

“Yep. She’s the only woman I’ve ever wanted to knock out. Your dad never let us, but we would’ve for you, sweetheart. That woman who birthed you has nothing but ice in her heart.”

“Well, it looks like she’s had y’all in her corner and now she’s got us too. I brought coffee, anyone want some? I also brought the stuff to make them Irish if you’re so inclined,” Ma offers, as she and Anna come up with a prospect behind them carrying a tray of coffee.

“I’ve never had anything Irish in me before, but last night I did have some Viking in me.” Beer shoots out of Ror’s mouth. Ry and Max burst out laughing. I see Pa and all the older brothers trying to hold in their laughter at what our woman just blurted out. I can see the second it dawns on Jane what she just said out loud. She pulls her hood from her hoodie down over her face, and just about everyone around the fire tries to stop laughing without much success.

“This is why I need to stay away from tequila!”

I grab her hands and try to pull them away from her face.

“Baby, don’t hide. That was one of the funniest things I’ve ever heard. Bonus, you got Ror to get beer to come out of his nose and mouth at the same time.”
