Ror points out the room they set my stuff in and goes to turn on a game to watch. I mix up the meatloaf, put it in the oven and get the corn ready to cook in a bit.

Walking into the room that the guys set my bags in, it doesn’t strike me as a guest room. There’s a huge bed, it looks even bigger than a king size. The walls are a soft gray and the furnishings are a darker wood. It’s not feminine in here, but it feels very comfortable.

There are two doors to the right of the bed. Opening the first one, it’s a bathroom, only I think spa would be a better description of it. There is a long countertop with two sinks and plenty of drawers. There’s a soaking tub that at least two if not more people could fit in it, but the glassed-in shower could fit a basketball team. There’s got to be at least six shower heads in there.

I move to the other door next to the bathroom. It’s a walk-in closet. I think it’s bigger than my childhood bedroom. There’s a whole part of it that looks like it’s designed to hold shoes and a bench in the middle of the room to sit to put on socks and shoes. My clothes would barely make a dent in here, though there’s plenty of room for all my hoodies. Don’t get ahead of yourself, Jane.

I walk out of the closet and see the most amazing thing ever. I can’t help but let out an excited screech.

Jon

I had just finished the guy’s schedule for watching Jane’s house and emailed it out and was coming into the kitchen when I heard Jane scream. Running to the room, I realize my gun is still on my desk. Shit.

“Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God! It’s a library!”

Juan the fucker, starts laughing behind me. My racing heart is trying to slow down as that scream was a scream she’s excited and not in danger.

“This is amazing! The chair and ottoman make a perfect reading area, but the shelves are almost empty.”

“Babygirl, they’re for you to fill. Ror built this for you.”

“You just built this?”

Glaring at our woman hopping up and down like a teenager, I rub my chest, almost willing my heart to go back into my chest and she has no idea what she just did to me.

“Woman. You yell like that and almost gave me a heart attack thinking somethin’ is wrong.”

I swear she looks at me like I’m overreacting or something. I’ve got a good mind to spank that smirk right off her.

She pats my chest where I’m rubbing it.

“You’re gonna be fine. Go get a beer and relax. Dinner’s almost ready.”

She grabs Ror in a bear hug and I can barely make out what she says to him.

“Thank you, it’s one of the most thoughtful things anyone has ever done for me.”

“Anything for you, my love.”

Chapter 16

Juan

For the last month or so, Jane’s been staying with us and it’s been amazing. Yes, we have arguments because apparently socks on the floor next to the hamper is a capital offense, and putting away throw blankets anywhere else but the back of the couch is ridiculous.

The only frustrating part of all of this, is whoever was leaving her all of that creepy shit, hasn’t left anything since she’s been staying with us. We even got the guys who’re watching her place to do it, so whoever it is can’t see the place is being watched, and still nothing.

I think just knowing whoever it is, is still out there is really getting to Jane. Hopefully tonight is a perfect distraction for her. Her birthday is this next week, so we are having a barbecue at Ma and Pa’s tonight. Ma’s making the food with Anna. Mads and Kierstie volunteered to do the decorating. She’s currently out having Sunday brunch and going shopping with Nicky, who’s helping arrange everything. Magically he already knew about the dinner before we invited him, at some point Ry’s gonna come clean about shit.

I just left the grocery store and am pulling up to Ma and Pa’s. I’m man enough to admit when I need help. Grabbing the bags of stuff I got, I head to the front door.

“Ma, you in here?”

“Where else would I be, son, when we’ve got a bunch of people coming over this evening? In fact, what are you doing here already?”

Looking at the woman who has always had the answers, I hold up my bags. “I need your help. I spent three hours this morning trying to make Jane a cake and then an hour cleaning up the kitchen and I have nothing to show for it.”

“Son, we’ve got all sorts of desserts and such. you didn’t need to try and make a cake. Come to think of it, have you ever baked anything before?”
