Juan
Walking into the shop, I can’t seem to shake the feeling like something’s off. Jane was fine this morning when we left for work, just getting up as she doesn’t have a client till lunchtime today. Everything looks normal at the shop and I even texted Ma and Pa to make sure they’re good and I think Ma’s convinced I’m nuts.
Fuck it, I must be nuts. I get to work on putting a new fuel pump in a truck. “Want some help brother?” Ror asks from behind me.
“Sure, weren’t you in the middle of a rebuild?”
“Yeah, but I’m stuck till a couple parts come in, supposed to be in by later today.”
Turning around to look at him, I can see something’s brewing in him.
“You feeling something’s off too, brother?”
“Yeah. I dunno what though. I even called Jane as soon as I got here and she was fine. Let’s not borrow trouble, J.”
“Yeah, okay. You wanna help with grabbing that end for me?” We get to work and are almost done with the fuel pump when Jon comes tearing out of his office into the shop with his phone in his hand and a look of rage.
“What the fuck did you just say?”
“You need to get over to Jane’s place now. Shane called 911, ’cause both Mario and Tim have been shot. I think Mario’s okay but Tim, brother, I dunno. He’s unconscious and there’s so much blood. They tore up the inside too. Something written on the wall and petals everywhere. We came to relieve them and found them like this.”
Feeling abject fear for our woman washes over me.
“We’re on our way now.” Jon hangs up with Jameson and starts running to the parking lot.
“Ror, with me. J, go home and make sure Jane’s okay. Call us the second you get there.”
Getting on my bike and starting it as fast as I can, I tear out of the parking lot so fast I can feel the back tire skid as I make the turn toward home. I can hear the guys take off in the other direction. I’m almost home when a truck turns onto the road behind me, going almost as fast as I am. In my rearview mirror I see Pa’s truck with Ry driving with Pa in the passenger seat. I skid to a stop in front of Jane’s SUV. I have no idea if I even put the stand down as I hopped off the bike and ran to the door. The door that’s not closed all the way.
Grabbing my gun from the holster, I push the door open.
“Jane! Baby, are you here?” I hear Tyger barking up a storm, but nothing else. Walking over to the master bedroom, I hear Ry behind me, going toward the other hallway.
“Jane!” As soon as I walk into our bedroom I know something’s very, very wrong. Her phone is on the floor, her purse still on the dresser with her work shoes on the floor next to the dresser. Scratching from the closest door is combined with a howl that I’ve never heard from this dog before. Opening the closet door, there’s Tyger, who looks worked up, but all in one piece. The closest looks like a war zone. Shoes and hangers are all over the place, like they were thrown or thrown at someone. Dread continues to course through me as I check the bathroom. As soon as I walk in, I’m filled with emotions of rage I’ve never felt and utter fear. Fear that just expanded to a level I never thought possible. On the counter there’s an unopened home pregnancy test. Running down the front of the counter is a considerable amount of blood. Like someone’s head was hit against the marble corner.
“Oh, fuck.” I feel Pa’s hand on my shoulder and Ry getting on the phone to someone.
“No cops, Pa. We need to go hunting. Now.”
The phone is ringing before I have it up to my ear.
Jon answers on speakerphone, “Tell me she’s home, J.”
“Someone came into our fucking house, hurt her, and took her. I need to get to the clubhouse to check my cameras now to find out who. We have to get her back, now!!”
I can hear Rory yelling in the background.
“Fuck! I need every brother at the clubhouse. Get Pa, Ma, and the girls there too.”
“Pa and Ry are here. I’ll have Max go get Ma. Oh and Nicky too.”
We hang up and I turn to Pa and Ry.
“I just called Max and Nicky. Max is picking up Ma and Nicky’s heading to the club now. I’ll call Mads and Kierstie on the way over.”
Pa grabs my neck and touches his forehead to mine like he did when we were younger.
“Son, we’ll get her back. She’s meant for you three and is a part of our family. Remember we’re knights in shining armor till someone hurts our family…”
