“Tim would’ve been proud to know he died trying to protect our princess. I’m not gonna stand around while she’s in danger. She’s the only blood I’ve got that’s worth anything, and she’s worth everything.”

We all get our guns out and make sure they're loaded and ready to go. I look at Rory, who I know is not supposed to have a gun. He’s got a knife in one hand. “You know my fists have always been my best weapon, brother. Let’s go.”

We head off in the direction that Samson says the building is. The sun is starting to set a bit, so in the tree cover we can move quickly and unnoticed.

We come up to a bit of a clearing and see a panel van parked in front of a cabin and a workshop. The cabin has windows and looks lit up. The workshop doesn’t seem to have windows, but it looks like there’s light coming from underneath the door.

Going with my gut, I send Ben and some of the brothers to check out the cabin and head with Ror and J to the workshop. There looks to be a door on the side that looks like the entrance if you were coming from the cabin.

“Brothers, get ready for anything.” Looking at Ry and Juan, I see them both nod in determination. It’s time to get Jane back.

I slowly turn the doorknob and push open the door. What I’m greeted with has me forgetting everything I said to the club and I charge at Cain. I can hear Juan and Rory behind me, roaring in anger. Cain’s so inside of his head, he doesn’t turn until the last minute, a hammer in one hand and a huge nail in the other. I slam into him, taking him to the ground. He must lose the hammer and nail, ’cause his hands come up to block the punches I start raining down on him. Juan grabs his hands away from his face and yanks them down.

“You fucking took our woman. You hurt her!”

A hand grabs my shoulder and shakes me. “He’s out, son. Let us take care of him.” I look from Cain’s bloodied face up to Ben. “Jane’s freaking out and gonna hurt herself worse.”

Looking up at Jane, I see her nailed to the cross by both hands. Her eyes are taped open and her feet are tied together. She’s screaming and trying to wrench her hands down.

Ror reaches her first. “Beautiful, it’s us. Look at me.”

“I can’t see. There’s been light in my eyes for hours, then he threw something in them and I can’t see. My eyes hurt and I can’t close them.”

I get to her other side. “Babygirl, I’m going to take the tape off your eyes.”

She starts thrashing around, deep in her own head, where she had to go. All three of us are touching her and it’s not enough to bring her back.

Roar starts singing. What the fuck? Since when can he sing?

“First time that I saw you, beautiful…” I look over at J and he looks as shocked as I am that Rory can sing. He sings another few lines and then asks her, “Don’t you remember, I told you that you’re the joy of my life?”

“Rory?”

“Yeah, my love, it’s us. You gotta let us take the tape off your eyelids, beautiful.”

“Jon and Juan are here too?”

“Right here, baby.”

Taking a second to make sure I’m in control of my voice, I say, “Babygirl, I’m here.”

Juan

I had to take a double look at Jon just now, but I wasn’t wrong. There were a couple of tears falling down his cheeks. In all the years I’ve known my brother, I’ve never seen him even get teary-eyed. Combined that with Ror singing and I think I’ve had enough fucking surprises for today.

I put my hand on Jane’s cheek.

“Stay still, baby. We’re going to take the tape off so you can close your eyes. Don’t try to look around, just keep them closed.” Jon and I take a hold of the tape and with a nod, we quickly remove it from each side, with Ror helping her close her eyes afterward.

“I know he did something to my hands. Can you untie me and get me down?”

I feel someone standing behind me. I turn around and see it’s Saxon. He was a medic in the army and other than Anna has the most medical training of anyone besides Jane.

“Jane, it’s Saxon. I know you understand what I’m about to tell you. We are going to get you down. We can untie your legs and are going to find something to cut the wood, but we’re not going to remove your hands.”

“Why the fuck not? She needs to get to a hospital.”

Jane speaks up, “’Cause he can’t tell where exactly it went through in my hand and if you yank them out, it could do more damage and I could lose more blood. He’s right. But… but could one of you stay with me while you figure that out.”
