“Brand new? New to what?”
The other guy, the taller one, comes and stands behind his friend. “Hate to break it to you, kid, but you’re fae now. A siren, by the looks of it.”
“A what?” I try to push my way to standing, but the guy shakes his head at me. His long platinum blonde hair is tied up in a bun at the back of his head and it shakes with him.
“You’re in shock. Best to stay seated, mate.”
The one still sitting in front of me looks up at his friend. “What do you think?”
“We’re not taking in another lost puppy, Shaun.”
“If we don’t, he could lose control again. He’s already killed.”
The other one shakes his head and shrugs. “He killed a rapist by the looks of it. Not like the world really lost anything special there.”
“I would have killed the girl,” I whisper to them. I was able to get myself outside, but just barely. Shaun leans back on his heels, regarding me. He’s covered in tattoos and wearing all black. I try to focus on one of the tattoos to calm my breathing. Iatesomeone. Ikilledsomeone.
“Well, you were literally starving to death. You can’t really blame yourself.”
“I ate pieces of her, and then I ate him,” I say, voice flat. I stare into his blue eyes. “Iate pieces of human flesh.”
“Yeah, we saw,” the other guy says. Even sitting down I can tell he’s at least as tall as me.
“Be nice, Evan,” Shaun reprimands. “What’s your name?”
“Pisces,” I tell him, ignoring Evan’s snort when he hears my name.
I finally push myself to stand up, and this time Shaun helps me, gripping my upper arm to steady me.
“Let’s at least clean you up before anyone sees you,” Evan says, inclining his head at my blood-soaked shirt.
I stare down at my shirt. It’s covered in two people’s blood now. “Oh god,” I let out, but Evan whispers something and waves his hand and it’s like all traces of the blood completely disappear.
“How did you do that?” I breathe out, looking between Shaun and Evan.
Evan holds out his hand. “Evan Lyra, fire elemental,” he says by way of introduction.
I uncertainly take his hand. “What’s a fire elemental?”
“Elemental fae have ties to all the elements and usually specialize in just one. They can also heal other people. Very powerful and very common,” Shaun adds, with a smirk at Evan.
Evan rolls his eyes. “Elemental fae are common, but fire elementals are quite rare. I’m actually a pretty big deal.”
The two of them don’t seem too concerned that I’m a danger to them, that I just went on a human-eating spree.
Shaun offers me his hand as well, and I shake it. “I’m Shaun Pyxus, wolf shifter,” he says, grinning. I see two very pointy canines.
“I’m Pisces Penrose, and apparently I’m a siren?” I say the last part quietly, not wanting to be overheard, even though we’re the only ones here.
“So Evan.” Shaun looks to his taller friend. “What do you think? Can we keep him?”
“Keep me?” I ask, raising a brow.
“Well, at least for the time being. You probably don’t want to be around humans until you get your cravings under control.”
“It’s normal,” Evan says, “especially when you didn’t grow up fae.”
“Grow up fae?”
