Sarah steps out of the shadows, jumping into her role. “Lady North! Let me help you to a bedroom.” The confusion has clearly already set in as we help her to a nearby bedchamber. I lift her up to get her on the bed, and then I leave the birthing to Sarah.
Upon exiting the door, I pull a pouch out of my pocket and sprinkle the contents along the bottom of the door. Once the line is complete, all sounds from the room cease to spill out into the hallway. Now I just need to wait for the heir so we can make our escape. The child will learn to be everything I need him to be.
I’m careful to make sure my pacing in the hallway doesn’t bring unwanted attention. The last thing I want is an unclean getaway. Sarah is taking longer than we anticipated. What’s taking her so long? The spell ensured the birth would take place within minutes. We’ve tested it enough to know it’s accurate.
Finally the door opens and Sarah hisses out, “My Lord... something unexpected occurred. There are two of them.”
“Two of what?” I snap the words because she’s wasted enough of my time already.
She flinches at my tone but knows better to withhold her answer. “Twins, my Lord.”
Twins? Now this… I couldn’t have planned better myself.
