Tapestry needle

Gauge:8 sts per inch in stockinette

Size:To fit average adult foot (adjust length as needed)

"You knit me socks?" I ask, like I’m not holding the proof in my hands.

Mandy shrugs. “Figured you could use something warm. Something just for you.”

Alright, here’s the deal. Tex got these because he’s been putting up with me, and that deserves some kind of medal. Or socks. Same thing, really. They’re purple because it made him blush the first time I brought the yarn home. And they’re simple because I’m not here to impress a knitting judge panel — I’m here to keep someone’s toes warm.

I’m not fancy with stitch patterns. These are plain, practical, and meant to be worn, not sit in a drawer. Don’t overthink it—knit ‘em with someone in mind, and they’ll turn out right.

If you’re making these for someone you care about, good. If you’re making them for yourself, also good. If you’re making them for a guy who insists he “doesn’t get cold” but still hogs the blanket… well. You know what to do.

What You’ll Need:

100g fingering-weight yarn in deep purple (or whatever makes your guy roll his eyes)

US 1 (2.25mm) needles — DPNs or magic loop, your call

Stitch markers (or scraps of yarn if you’re too cheap to buy them)

Tapestry needle for weaving in ends (yes, you have to weave them in)

Gauge:8 sts per inch in stockinette. You don’t have to swatch, but if they come out doll-sized, that’s on you.

Size:Fits average adult man foot. Adjust length unless you want them to cut off circulation. The Plan:

Cuff:

Cast on 64 sts. Join in the round without twisting (unless you’re into Möbius socks).

Knit 2, Purl 2 rib for 20 rounds. This makes them stay up. You’re welcome.

Leg:

Knit every round for about 6 inches or until you get bored.

Heel Flap:

Work the next 32 sts back and forth:

Row 1 (RS): Slip 1, Knit 1, repeat to end.

Row 2 (WS): Slip 1, Purl to end.

Do that 16 times (32 rows total). Yes, it’s boring.

Turn Heel:

Row 1: Knit 18, ssk, K1, turn.

Row 2: Slip 1, Purl 5, p2tog, P1, turn.

Keep going like that, eating away stitches until you’ve got 18 left.
