Maybe I can get my giddy-up and go back too.

Natalie straightened herself behind the wheel, ready to get this big ol’ truck back on the road and hopefully between the lines.

She followed Randy back to the precinct, and the drive went quite well, but she didn’t chance trying to park between two cars. She drove to the far end of the lot and parked. It would take some practice, but until she got it mastered a little exercise never hurt anyone.

She locked the truck and jogged over to meet Randy, who was waiting where he’d parked next to the Mustang.

“You did good,” he said.

“Yeah, not as bad as I remembered.”

“I’ll follow you over to the storage unit.”

“If you have to get back to work, I could get an Uber. You don’t have to—”

“I want to.”

“Okay. Then let’s go. It’s the new storage place over by the stadium. Do you know where that is?”

“Yeah, but I’ll follow you.”

She took the key from her purse and unlocked the car. She’d miss the sporty ride. She patted the steering wheel and then started the car.

Natalie pulled into traffic, with Randy right behind her.

Traffic had gotten heavier now that it was afternoon, and shewas happy to be in this car rather than the truck in the stop-and-go traffic.

Finally, she got to the storage facility and pulled up to the garage bay door. She punched in the code, and the door rose. She slowly pulled in.

“Guess this is goodbye again for a while,” she said to the car as she walked out to push the button to close the door behind her.

Randy pulled his car up right beside her. She waited until the garage door completely closed, then got in.

“We really got a lot accomplished today.” She let out a breath.

“Are you in a hurry to get on the road?”

“Well, I’d planned to go back to Chestnut Ridge tonight, but it’s getting late now. I’m going to see what Sheila has going on and see if I can stay with her. Why?”

“I’ve got a softball game tonight. If you don’t have any other plans, you’re welcome to tag along.”

“Just as friends?”

“Of course. Sheila can come too.”

“Gimme a sec. I’ll text her.” Natalie sent the text, certain it was not a problem, but Sheila was probably showing a house or something, because she didn’t respond.

“Don’t know if Sheila can make it or not, but I’ll come to your softball game with you on one condition.”

“What’s that?”

“Can we get a snack on the way? I’m starving.”

“I’m not eating doughnuts twice in one day.” He patted his flat stomach. “I don’t have time for another thirty minutes in the gym.”

“No. I meant real food.”

“Good, because I wouldn’t be able to fit in my suit if I ate like that all the time. How about a burger?”
