“As I said the other day,” Dad says, eyes soft as he looks at us, “I’m glad she has you, Wes. She deserves someone who will love her like you so clearly do.”

“Thanks, Dad.” I tuck my chin, trying to hide my emotion.

“Now.” Dad claps his hands together, drawing my attention back to him. “How did you two meet?”

Wes and I look at each other, smiles growing across our faces until we both burst out laughing. Wes tucks a strand of hair behind my ear and says, “Grey, try not to make me look too bad, okay? This is your dad after all.”

I shake my head at him, a smile I would not have anticipated wearing this evening wide across my face as I dive into our story.

CHAPTER THIRTY-FIVE

Wes

Icome in for a landing at the airfield and smile as the wheels touch down. It’s been a long week filled with multiple flights daily and lots of new people to meet. I’m soaking in every minute, fully knowing that when I eventually change jobs, I’ll miss the energy that comes with this. Being busy also keeps me from counting down the days, hours, minutes until Joss gets home. She’s been on an extended trip, and damn if I don’t miss her constantly.

We’re going on two months since her parents were here, since we officially became a couple, and she’s been gone at least half of that time. We make do with FaceTime and texting when she’s away, but those things don’t hold a candle to the reality of having that woman on a surfboard next to me every morning, in my space… in my bed. We aren’t officially living together. Yet. It’s more like wehave a two-bedroom apartment that happens to have two kitchens and living rooms. It doesn’t matter where we sleep or where we eat though, if we’re home, we’re together.

I run through all the final checks on the plane before hopping in the company F-150 I use during the week. I suppose I’ll have to look into getting a car of my own when the sale of Adventure Chasers finalizes. Pulling my phone out of my pocket and turning it back on, I’m greeted by texts from my two favorite women.

Grey

Just landed in New Zealand. Going to grab a drink with a couple of the flight attendants, wish you were here. You’d love NZ!

Rory

Hey, just had a question for you about Christmas. Give me a call when you can : )

I smile as I read them, feeling lucky they’re my people. I respond to Rory first because I want to make sure she’ll still be awake when I get home.

Me

I have some ideas about Christmas, but I might not have a firm plan for a few more days. Will call you in a bit if you’re up and we can discuss ; )

Rory

What’s with the wink?

Me

You’ll have to wait up and see

Going back to Joss’s message, I send a quick reply, unable to keep the smile off my face.

Me

I’d go anywhere with you, Grey, and NZ is definitely on my list. Maybe we can plan a trip in the new year?

Before I fling my phone into the passenger seat, I send one more text to let Breck know I’m on my way back to the office. His truck sits between Talia’s car and Drew’s SUV when I pull up. Good, I was hoping to catch up with him for a few minutes. Every time I’ve been in the office this week, he’s been out. I jump down from the truck, double clicking the key fob to lock it. I rarely take it home on Fridays, but I had several larger packages delivered here to avoid Joss seeing them. I also need it for my weekend plans, so Breck’s letting me use it.

I walk in the door and see my packages stacked along the front wall. I grab the first one, figuring I’ll load them up now and talk to Breck when I’m done. I don’t make it back to the door before I hear raised voices coming from behind his door, and though I can’t make out what they’re saying, I know it’s him and Talia.

Well, that’s a new development. I’ve never heard them fight before.

I have a clear view into Drew’s office from where I stand. His eyes are trained on the source of the shouting.

“How long has that been going on?” I ask, walking to lean against his door jamb.

He shrugs. “Today? Or in general?” He turns away, refocusing on his computer.
