He nodded and I wanted to smack the smug expression off his face. “The enemy of my enemy is my friend. And they have a lot of enemies.”

Interesting. “Well, I’m glad we had this chat. I gotta be honest, though, this place is kind of a shithole. I’ll stay at a hotel and be back tomorrow to collect my cash.”

“Whatever you say, Prez. It was a pleasure meeting you.”

I nodded. “The $20,000 will make you even with the club. But for the disrespect, I’m gonna need something else.” I reached into my cut, resting my hand on my weapon.

The bastard’s jaw ticked. “Yeah? What’s that? My firstborn?” The men snickered.Idiots.

I lifted my chin at Lexie. “Her.”

He shook his head. “Sorry, old timer. I’ve got plans for this one tonight.”

Lexie whimpered as he dug his fingers into her side.

My gaze hardened. “You’ll give her to me, your president, or you’ll be giving $50,000 in cash tomorrow, which we both know is what you really owe.”

“Fuck,” he swore, grinding his jaw hard enough even I could hear it across the room. “Fine.” He pushed Lexie off his lap and she stumbled to keep from falling over. “Take the bitch.”

I held out my hand and she walked toward me. I met her eyes.Almost safe, baby girl.

After what felt like an eternity, she grabbed my hand and I pulled her to me. “Until tomorrow, boys.”

I turned to the door and pushed her outside.

“Whoa,” she whispered as she took in my borrowed ride. “Is that yours?”

“It’s a long story. Let’s get you home.”

I opened the passenger door and she jumped inside. I slammed it shut and walked to my door. I didn’t trust any of these fuckers to honor the deal we’d made.

I shoved the key into the ignition and started the car.

“Wait! Jordan’s still in there!” Lexie grabbed my hand and pulled. “Please, we need to find him.”

I gunned the engine and peeled out of the space. I should have played it cool, but I couldn’t help it. Not with Lexie in enemy territory.

“He’s a big boy, he can handle himself.” And I was even more convinced that he was the rat. There was no way he stepped into that clubhouse and didn’t know something was up. “Right now, you’re my priority.”

“Wait right here.” Bear pointed to a couch that had seen better days. It sat outside the closed door where they held church. “You’ll need to give a report on what happened tonight.”

Great. Déjà vu. My favorite. My nerves were shot and the last thing I wanted to do was sit here alone and think about what had happened. Or what had almost happened.

I shivered as I sat down.

“‘Sup, old man.” A teenage boy walked into the hallway, carrying a bag of hot fries and several bottles of water. He plopped down on the couch next to me. “Took you long enough to get here.”

Bear sighed and rubbed his temples.

I waited a beat, but no one spoke.Men.“Bear? Aren’t you going to introduce us?”

He sighed. “Yeah, right. Lexie, Michael. Michael, Lexie. Mike, you been in yet?”

Michael crossed his arms and huffed. “Fuck no. I told Mav what you said, and he called emergency church and told me to sit my ass right here. Fuck him. He’s not the boss of me. If I knew where my room was, I’d leave, but I still don’t know where I’m supposed to fucking sleep tonight.”
