“As well as many men I don’t know.”
“It wasn’t like that,” I lied. “Brandi and I went to have a drink and talk. The only difference was it wasn’t coffee.”
He studied my face and then ran his gaze down my body. “Is this going to be an ongoing issue?”
I looked him straight in the eye, trying not to roll mine. “There’s no issue. I wanted to hang out with my friend instead of watching reality TV.”
He thought for a moment, looking past me and then met my gaze before he spoke and crossed his arms over his chest. “I’m going to be spending a lot of time on my campaign. So help me God, if I hear about any man touching you, you’ll pay. Itwillbe your fault because you’ll be in a place you shouldn’t be in and therefore disobeying me. Once that happens, you’ll never be able to leave this house except to accompany me to whatever appearance I need to make to become mayor. You’ll only be allowed to use the pool for your workouts, and if you get fat, you know what will happen. Do I make myself clear?”
I swallowed down my need to object and nodded. “Yes, but if I get pregnant, I’m going to gain weight.”
He reached up with his hand and tucked my hair behind my ear. Not removing his hand from my face, he cupped my cheek with a little too much force. “That will be under different circumstances and you’ll still be required to stay healthy for our baby.”
“Okay,” I whispered.
“Now, be a good wife and go wait naked for me. I’ve had a long day and I need to relax.”
