"All the way to California?"
I chuckled. "Yeah, baby. All the way to California."
She thought for a few moments. "The police said we need to stick around for a while, but once we're good to go, I'll join you."
"Yeah?" I grinned.
"Yeah. It will be good for us."
"It will." I leaned down and placed my lips against hers.
We started walking again. "What kind of job is it?"
"Private security."
"Like a bodyguard?"
I nodded. "Yeah, something like that, I think."
"Just don't fall in love with the client."
I stopped and looked down into her brown eyes. "How can I when I'm in love with you?"
Erin slowly smiled. "Yeah?"
I grinned back. "Yeah."
"I love you too."
I kissed her again. This time it wasn't short and sweet. It was one that made me forget about the frigid air.

As I waited in the parking lot of the mall for Momma to come out, I sent a text to Cole:
Me:I'd like to take the job in L.A.
Cole:Cool, man. When can you be out here?
Me:I need to find a place, pack up here, and drive out there. So, a month maybe?
I didn't know how long Erin would need to stay in town, but I didn't think it would be longer than a month, especially since Frank and Saffron would remain MIA.
Cole:Whenever you get here, I'll get you set up.
Me: Thanks, bro. I'll keep you updated.
Momma came out of the building a few minutes later. "How's Erin doing?"
I pulled out of the parking space. "Good. She said everything went well yesterday."
"Are they looking for Frank and Saffron?"
"Yeah, they took them to the station, so it's a legit investigation."
"Good."
"I just want to get out of here and put it all behind us." I turned to go toward the highway.
