“We should go,” Tyler said.

I glanced at my friend. “Please tell Rhett to come up here.”

“Fallon …” Mom warned.

“Mom,” I replied sternly. “I want to see him. Now!”

The machine beeped again, and the nurse stopped it. “Only if you get your heart rate down.”

I took a deep breath and begged my mother, “Please?”

She thought for a moment. “Fine, but make it fast. You need your rest.”

“Thank you.” I turned my attention to my friends. “Please send him up.”

“We will,” Hayden said and patted my leg.

“And have fun on your honeymoon. Have all the sex.” I chuckled.

Tyler blushed and peeked at my mom. He backed up toward the door. “Yeah. I’ll call you when we’re back.”

“Sounds good.”

The couple turned on their heels and left.

“Is there something going on between you and Agent Davis?” Mom asked.

The nurse pushed the button on the blood pressure machine attached to me so she could check it.

“I …” I opened and closed my mouth. Lying to her was pointless when it had to be obvious why I was fighting so hard to see him. “Yes.”

“I figured as much after last night.”

“Is that why he was fired?” I asked.

“No, I don’t think he was fired.” She shook her head. “He was placed on leave because he attacked Finn.”

“So, he won’t get in trouble for dating me?”

“That I don’t know.”

Rhett had been removed from my detail, but what did that actually mean? Would he be transferred to another assignment? Or worse, no longer be a Secret Service agent?

“Will you give me privacy when Rhett gets up here?” I asked my mom.

“I don’t know if that’s a good idea.”

“Why? What could possibly happen other than I get to see my boyfriend?”

She took a deep breath. “Okay, but you really need your rest. Make it fast.”

I nodded. “Thank you.”

It didn’t take Rhett long to knock on the door. I smiled brightly at him as he stepped over the threshold.

“Hey,” I greeted.

“Hey.” He took a tentative step closer.
