“Not yet, you’re not,” Fallon teased from the other side. “Save that for someone else.”

Wearing only a towel around my waist, I swung the door open.

“Okay, maybe you were.”

I rolled my eyes. “Just got out of the shower.”

I let Rhett come inside and do his Secret Service thing as me and Fallon continued to chat at the door. I didn’t even care that I was practically naked.

“Did you change your mind about coming out with us?” Fallon asked.

I nodded and leaned against the doorjamb. “I did.”

“Good. Go get dressed and let’s head out.”

“This is what I’m wearing,” I deadpanned, as Rhett gave the all-clear for Fallon to come into my apartment.

Fallon raised an eyebrow, scanning me from head to toe, and chuckled as he walked inside. “Yeah, okay.”

I shrugged, a weak grin forming. “What? You think it’s too formal?”

He shook his head and laughed. “Nah, but you’re going to freeze your balls off.”

“That’s okay. I don’t need them anymore.” I shut the door.

“What the hell?” Rhett responded with a snort.

“Yeah, what the fuck are you talking about?” Fallon inquired.

I sighed. “It’s Sean.”

Fallon blinked. “What happened?”

I hesitated for a moment and then answered, “His kids accused me of only being with him for his money, which is absolutely not true.”

“Wow, yeah, I don’t peg you as someone after his money, but let’s talk about that other part. You and Uncle Sean are together?”

I nodded once. “Yeah. Or at least, we were. But now I don’t know. He said he needs time to think, to consider his kids’ feelings.”

“Damn, dude. How are you feeling?”

I lifted a shoulder. “I’ve neverdatedsomeone before, and I truly enjoy being with him. I loved everything about him, but now I feel as though I’m lost. I can’t even enjoy New Year’s Eve because all I want to do is stay home and think about him.”

Fallon and his husband shared a look.

“What?” I asked.

“You’re in love, my friend,” Fallon answered. “You actually just said it yourself.”

I cared about Sean a lot. I loved spending time with him at work and away from the office. Loved having our dinners at home together and carrot cake under the stars.

Hell, Fallon was right; I fucking loved Sean. My heart felt as though it was slowly shattering in my chest. All I wanted was to go up to Sean and have him wrap me in his arms and tell me everything was going to work out. That everything would be okay.

“Yeah, I do.” I looked down at the carpet.

“Then this is what you’re going to do.”

My leg bouncedup and down as the Secret Service vehicle pulled up to the curb in front of Sean’s condo.
