Because he was right.
All the Elders maintained a certain role as leaders of their kind. Lucian served as the strategic mastermind. Jayson demonstrated strength through action. Alik took on the tasks no one else had the courage to conquer.
And Balthazar was Hydria’s heart.
Issac might not always see eye to eye with the mind reader, but he could acknowledge his purpose and power on this island.
Balthazar was the emotional glue that secured the Hydraians together, the leader they all followed willingly because they trusted him implicitly.
If they were about to be attacked by an army of Seraphim, they needed the Elder who resembled hope and love.
They needed Balthazar.
“The next time he rings in for an update, I’ll tell him it’s time,” Lucian said, reading the agreement in Issac’s nod and likely through his expression as well. “Until then, we need to prepare the island for an attack unlike any we’ve ever seen.”
Issac inclined his head. “Tell me what you need, and I’ll see that it’s done.”
Chapter28
Balthazar
Leela stretched, her curves rubbing against Balthazar’s torso and groin with the beautifully executed movement.
This woman oozed sex.
It poured out of her, demanding he devour her to completion, encouraging him to indulge in every inch of her flawless form and bow to her in worship.
“You’re a succubus,” he mused, his lips skating along her throat as he pulled her body back into his to press his chest to her back. “Sucking all the energy from my veins.”
“From your cock,” she corrected.
He grinned against her pulse, nibbling the sweet flesh and wondering what her blood would taste like on his tongue. It was a bizarre craving, one he’d never experienced with another female.
Because of the bond,he realized.
What had possessed her to bite him? A mutual agreement? A desire to be together? She’d still been able to seduce other people since, which meant they weren’t secured by a monogamous link. He’d even asked her about it last night, curious as to how it worked.
She’d told him the partial bond left them both free to play with others. Or perhaps it was her sensual spirit that required it. She wasn’t quite sure.
Would that change if he bit her? Or would it remain the same between them?
They were both passionate creatures.
Although, the idea of sharing her didn’t necessarily appeal to him. He’d probably enjoy the show on a sexual level, mostly because no one else could please her better than he could.
And if, by chance, she did find someone, then that person was worthy of worshipping her body because it would bring her pleasure.
A normal man or woman just wouldn’t do.
And they were too potent together to really invite a third into their bed.
So how many of the memories with Nythos were truly Leela? Because Nythos had enjoyed playing around with others. Were those recollections infused by moments he’d shared with Leela? Had he watched her bed other men and women? Or had all that been Nythos?
The only way to truly know was to bite her.
Even then, it wasn’t guaranteed. Patreel had just guessed it would help them break the chains on their minds.
Like Caro and Sethios.
